Country/Time Period We’d Love to Write About

Howdy Delighted Readers!

We have a treat for you today.  Author Paige Tyler stopped by to share what it would be like if a couple of her X-Ops characters ended up back in time.  Let’s see what she has to say and make sure you read to the bottom of the page for the giveaway opportunity.

Country/Time Period We’d Love to Write About

I have to admit, if we were going to write anything with a historical bent, we’d have to put our spin on it. That would mean including our modern characters, paranormal themes, and of course, lots of action.

One quick idea that just popped into my head is taking my current X-OPS characters (both the shifter variety and the non-shifter military/law enforcement ones) and sending them back in time—like that old TV show, Sliders. That would let me take modern, paranormal, butt-kicking characters and put them in all kinds of different scenarios.

I could just imagine someone like Clayne Buchanan, my wolf shifter with the bad attitude, being put into a situation where he had to try and “blend in” with a regency time period. That would be crazy! He has a hard time blending in with a modern crowd. A bunch of men and woman in fancy period garb and manners? It would be a train wreck!

Or maybe I could take Ivy Halliwell, my butt-kicking feline shifter, and put her into an old-fashioned environment just to see what kind of trouble they could get into. Maybe some swashbuckling pirate jumps on board a ship with Ivy, ready to terrify the damsel into submission only to have her rip the sword out of his hand, toss him overboard, and take control of his ship. That could be a lot of fun.

Yeah, maybe that’s my story idea! Both Ivy and Clayne have been swept up in a time wave disruption and sent back to the mid-seventeen hundreds. Ivy finds herself in possession of a pirate vessel and crew while Clayne has been tasked by the Queen to rid the southern coastal waters of that dreaded scallywag—The Feline of Florida!

I can just see it now. Their ships close on one another, Clayne leaps the twenty feet separating them only to find himself facing his friend and fellow shifter, Ivy.

“Clayne, what the hell are you doing here?” Ivy asks.

“I have no idea,” He admits. “One second I’m sitting on my couch watching football with Danica eating a slice of pizza, and the next I’m sitting in an uncomfortable chair in 1715 England, munching on a scone! Talk about the polar opposite of pizza. Who the hell would eat one of those things?”

Ivy and Clayne come to realize that they have been sent back in time to stop an event that could change the course of history, perhaps Blackbeard being given a nuclear weapon by a rogue time traveler from Russia. They must convince Ivy’s pirate crew and Clayne’s British Navy crew to work together to stop a plot that none of the people can even understand, much less believe.

In the process, Ivy and Clayne will be joined by fellow X-OPS teammates Landon and Danica, as well as a few random historical figures caught up in the time wave disruption, like a few medieval knights who consider Ivy to be their warrior princess, and a couple 1920’s gangsters who figure that breaking a few kneecaps for Clayne could be fun.

The woman tensed. As anger and fear ricocheted across her face, her eyes changed from red to green to brown in a dizzying display like nothing he’d ever seen.

Every instinct in Angelo’s body screamed at him to lunge for his weapon. Instead he set his feet for impact, blocking her slashing claws. Unbelievably, after a few moments of struggling, she went still, all the fight gone…

Minka isn’t sure she should trust the sexy Special Forces soldier who found her. Subjected to horrors, on the run from scientists set on locking her in a cage, Minka is terrified of the monster she’s becoming…and somehow, Angelo is the only one who can calm the beast inside her and make her feel safe.

But can she trust the way he makes her feel when she’s not even sure she can trust herself?

The following two tabs change content below.
I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.
  • I’ve not read any of her books, but I’d have to go with 2 of my favorite characters – Kate Daniels and Curran Lennart. Putting those two in Regency London would have to be very well written, but I would love to imagine all the things they could get into. I’m thinking steampunk elements, as well.

Thanks, Lekeisha! If you check out my books, let me know how you like them! 🙂

  • I’ve listened to the three SWAT books and read the first two X-Ops books. I found it funny that she mentions to the only tow X-Ops characters that I know. LOL. I do have to agree that Clayne going back into any time period would be hilarious, unless you made him a Viking (I’ve been binge watching the TV show on Amazon Prime). He could probably pull that off. LOL

    • Paige Tyler

LOL! Yes, Clayne would make a great viking! 🙂

  • OH shit! Thanks for reminding me, I totally dropped the ball on my stop! Mother fracker!

  • That does sound like a story I might like.

  • That is quite the gang

  • I use to like Sliders, and love the idea. 🙂

  • Modern shape shifting characters in a historical setting sounds like fun! I am not a big fan of time travel, but read a few books where someone from now went back in time and it does lead to some fun scenes because of the trying to blend in part.

  • Oh my gosh that would be so fun! It always cracks me up in time travels when the hero gets thrown into a new situation and is all grumbly and awkward. lol

  • Barb A. Metheney-Kiser

I’ve read them all but this newest one. I’m not a big fan of historical books. But if it starts out in present and they get transported back then I might read it. Love paige’s books
