Welcome to Delighted Reader Boone Brux! We are excited to have her here to chat with us today.
Thank you so much for having me here!!! I’m so excited to be at Delighted Reader!!! See, lots of exclamation points. That’s how excited I am.
Let’s start of by having you tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, I’m Boone and I’m a bookaholic. (Then you all reply, “Hi Boone.”) I write paranormal romance, high fantasy, and am working on a contemporary series, and a paranormal humor series that has both adult and YA intertwined stories. I live in Alaska, am married with children, and I love being a writer.
I was so intrigued by a romance weaving into cosmetics! Can you tell us a little about Suddenly Beautiful?
The cosmetic company is run by Toraos Stephanos, son of Aphrodite, which makes him a reluctant demi-god. Aphrodite puts in lots of appearances in the book. The heroine, Nikki Triano, is also a demi-goddess, but doesn’t know it at the start of the book. I have to admit, the cosmetic company is just the background for the story, but it seemed appropriate with the hero being Aphrodite’s son. One night Tor accidentally drinks Ambrosia and all his deeply buried desires for Nikki come out. Can I just hint at a two chapter love scene here? Anyway, Nikki is over the moon because she’s loved Tor since the day she met him, but she’s kept it hidden behind her efficient assistant exterior. Her fantasy of her and Tor having a relationship are quickly dashed when he doesn’t remember anything in the morning. Oops, his bad. Plus, getting down and dirty with another demi-god activated Nikki’s goddess powers and she’s not sure what the heck is going on when the things she thinks about actually start to happen. Of course she has a nemesis, Demetria Mirrors, niece to Narcissi. She’s a vain attorney for the corporation who is determined to make Tor one of the notches on her bedpost.
I am intrigued about the cosmetic industry. How much research is needed to write a story about this world?
I’ll admit I did very little besides watching television shows and movies. Since Kythera Cosmetics is more about the corporate world than actual cosmetics, I winged it. Hopefully it’s close enough to reality to be entertaining.
What sparked the idea for Suddenly Beautiful?
I told my editor, Liz Pellitier, that I wanted to write for Entangled’s Covet line. She and I brainstormed an idea and ta da, Suddenly Beautiful was born.
Tell us a little about a scene in the book you loved writing?
By far my favorite scene is the showdown between Nikki and Demetria Mirrors. Nikki hits Demetria with a compulsion to say what she’s thinking. Then realizing she hit her to hard, Nikki tries again, but really hasn’t learned to control her powers. Let’s just say it’s a spell blasting good time.
How many times have you attended Authors After Dark? What keeps bring you back each year?
2013 will be my second year. I absolutely love all the opportunities there are for me as a author to host events and mingle with readers, bloggers, and reviewers. Plus I’ve met so many fantastic authors at AAD. I will say that bloggers are a partying crowd. They’re my peeps.
What kind of pizza do you like? Thin crust or original?
Original (with a side of ranch)
What do you like most about being an author?
I guess it’s the flexibility of the job. It allows me to be home with my girls. Besides that, right now I love how the market is changing and all the opportunities that are open to authors, bloggers, and readers to connect. It’s such a small world with the Internet and an exciting time for authors.
What is in the works next for you?
I am thrilled to say the first book in my reaper series is coming out in April as well. If there was ever a ‘book of my heart’ To Catch Her Death is it. Which is rather sad because there’s nothing serious about this series. My character is a 35 year old, mother of three, who just found out she’s a grim reaper for people who have died in stupid ways. It’s not a romance, though I will say that her partner and her definitely have a spark between them. I love this book. I really do, especially the awesome cover I had commissioned for it. Can you tell I’m excited.
What I love about the series is that the daughter’s book, Sudden Death, is second in the series. She’s an underage reaper and her story picks up where To Catch Her Death leaves off. It’s a series mothers and daughters can read together. (blink blink)
Dang, I love my job.
Thank you for joining us today at Delighted Reader! We had a blast!
Thank you for having me and I will see you in Savannah!

Being the son of Aphrodite isn’t a walk in the clouds. Rebelling against his demi-god status, billionaire make-up mogul Toraos Stephanos fights to separate his personal life and the immortal world by swearing off demi-god girlfriends forever. Too bad his newest employee can’t take the hint.
Though Nikki secretly pines for her smoking hot boss, no way will she jeopardize her job and independence professing her love to a guy so clearly out of her league. Too bad that leaves her with only imagining him naked and thinking evil thoughts about the new girl.
After a single bottle of Ambrosia and one night of passion… Nikki finally thinks she has a chance with the man of her dreams. But the next morning, Tor pretends like nothing happened, leaving Nikki with an emerging drive for combat—after all, turns out she is the daughter of Ares and she’s about to make her mama proud.
All is fair in love and war… and Nikki’s not about to let anyone forget it.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
As a multi-published and an award winning author, Boone’s writing drips with experiences from real life.
Addicted to anything that might make a good story, she weaves tales that range from dark fantasy to humorous romance. Settled in the icy regions of Alaska with the love of her life and twin daughters, it’s not uncommon to find her tapping away on her iPad on a windy beach or the barren tundra.
Be warned, anyone and everything is fodder for one of Boone’s novels.
