After a decade, Abraham Tuttle, has returned to the place where it all began and ended so heartbreakingly.  He is now back at the Army Ranger school as an instructor.  The dreams are coming often and more intense than ever when he dreams of his destined lover, The Great Thunderbird, who tells him that they are mates.  Abe can’t quite accept it because unlike Ethan, he cannot shift into an eagle form to fly with his mate.  Abe wishes that it all could have been true, but he lost his chance with Ethan long ago.

Ethan Quaderer has regretted his words to his lover for ten long years.  Those frustrated hard words that made Abraham disappear out of him life, but now he has a second chance because they are both back at Ft. Benning and he still has the lake cabin.  He will try once again to do what it takes to have his destined mate back in his life and try to convince Abe that he must believe in them and their destiny together.

I absolutely loved the mythology and tone of this story.  I found both men engaging even though there wasn’t much time to do more than sketch out their characters.  The plot and conflict were strong.  However, I really felt that this one suffered from the shortened page count.  It needed more time to develop and to tease out the relationship and characters and take its time smoothing into the transitions.

So in the end, I liked the promise of this one, but just wanted more to take it from likeable to amazing.

My thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.

I know! It really needs help. I read the blurb and liked all the Native American shifter mythology and mysticism it promised so I didn’t see it until after it landed in my box or I might have hesitated too.
