The Delight
I’m almost guaranteed a good time when this writing team puts out a book. I’ve had my eye on this series for a while so I was glad to pick up the first in this sci-fi series with a twist of psychic talent.
Review
Silent Blade is a short novella that is set in the future when humans branch out into space and colonize away from the home world. In this setting, the ruling bodies are business clans (families) who have psychically and tech enhanced people who make them powerful.
Meli is a lethal assassin for her family and with the end of her last job she just want to be left alone, but now they are calling for one more job, Celino, the gift and successful money-maker from a rival family who at one time had been her fiance until he rejected her. It is do to him that she became a shunned woman. Revenge is going to taste good.
Silent Blade is a shorter piece that has the job of developing a new world, characters, and plot. I loved this new sci-fi world and the clan rivalry and genetic and tech talents offer a built in conflict. I don’t normally like revenge plots, but this one worked for me. I enjoyed both characters and getting their side of the story. I liked it enough that I wish this had been a longer piece so more time could have been spent on the relationship and a few summarized bits that would have loved in full scenes. Still, it was good stuff and I will definitely be coming back for more.

The world in Silent Blade sounds really interesting. I still need to read an Ilona Andrews book, but I’m hoping to remedy this soon!
Yeah, it’s like the mafia in space. LOL
You have a treat in store when you get the chance, Crystal.
Yay for Ilona Andrews!!!! You have me so curious about this story! I want to know why Celino rejected Meli. The premise of this story with the psychically enhanced people in space sounds like an interesting one. Hopefully, the next story in the series will be longer.
Yeah, there were some good twists in this one as the truth about the past comes out. The next one is a novella, too, so I’m not sure if the series will offer any longer ones.
I absolutely LOVE Ilona Andrews! I’m dying to know if this duo gets over the revenge thing and ends up a couple. Is this like a prelude to a new series? I thought I saw something on Twitter about them putting out something new, but my memory fails me now!
Ha, the end result was a fun surprise.
I’m not sure if its a prelude series or not. So far its just two novellas, but maybe it is going to be turned into something bigger. Maybe you saw that they were getting ready to release the next Innkeeper Chronicles book which is also a sci-fi one. I’m so excited about that release.
I read this series years ago. I want to revisit. I think they are working on audio. I’ll have to give them a try again then. I remember loving it.
I still need to read the second one, but if its coming in audio, maybe I’ll wait for that. 🙂
