Welcome to the first edition of Delighted Reader’s Beach Reads of the Summer of 2013! We are excited to recommend books we are taking on vacation with us or even books we are looking forward to reading while relaxing! Let’s get started!
Today’s Beach Recommendation is from Sophia Rose who just flipped when I said we were doing this. I just love her! She starts us off with a Young Adult book called The Summer I Became a Nerd by Leah Rae Miller and more our adult book selection, she chose The Summer He Came Home by Juliana Stone.
Read why Sophia Rose thinks you should take this along with you on vacation:
This title came out on May 7th and I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I’m going to go out on a limb and recommend it for a fun summer read anyway. Need you ask why?
The catchy title caught my attention first which then drew me in so that I read the blurb. I copied the blurb provided by Entangled Teen below for you to see what I mean.
On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl’s body isn’t just unknown, it’s anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.
Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.
Sounds good, right? Something a little different from the usual YA fare? Look for my review thoughts on the story in about a month in a Yours Affectionately Post.
I didn’t forget the adult readers. I have a summer reading recommendation for them too. This was one that I have already read and reviewed for the blog back in April. I picked this book because it is quintessential summer romance stuff- small resort town in northern Michigan, hero returns to his home town, heroine has had it hard and carries secrets, adorable little girl, hot attraction and wonderful secondary characters that get their own stories. There’s even the big 4th of July Parade and Town festivities for the backdrop to the big climactic scene. And what’s the name of this perfect summer read? The Summer He Came Home by Juliana Stone
Bad Boys of Crystal Lake #1
Feel free to share your thoughts on these recommendations or if you have any summer reads that we abso-must read or our summer won’t be complete.
