The Delight

I didn’t know what to expect going into this book. I knew there were three books, and that it was going to be a darker romance. I saw it was a YA/NA romance and thought what the heck. I found myself drawn into this more than I expected and probably because it was shrouded in mystery, but also only from one POV. It grabbed me and I delighted in reading them all within 24 hours.

Review

UNTouched starts with Tinsley Ditkiss (her mother loved Christmas and wanted to name her Tinsel, so this was a comprise) leaving her best friend Ruby to head home. Only to find her mother overdosed in the pantry of their apartment. To say they are poor is an understatement and every sense is tuned into the description of where Tinsley comes from. Upon getting to the hospital a familiar face from the past rescues her. Claire helps Tinsley’s mom get into rehab and takes Tinsley in to liv ewith her. But Tinsley never quite feels at home or like she has anything of value to her name.

Claire confused me entirely at this point. Claire was their landlord when Tinsley was young, but ended up kicking them out. Now she shows up like she owes them something and rescues them. It just felt off and formulated. Tinsley decides to remake herself and become Ti, but that just isn’t really going to happen. The first night she is there she witnesses something she shouldn’t and is warned by a handsome teen to forget and get lost. But Ti has nowhere to go and shows up at Bay Falls High for her first day of school.

On her first day she makes friends with Beth, who gets out of trouble using her menstral cycle as an excuse. She is smacked down by two rich bitches who call her a whore. She meets Denny for the first time, but he is forgetabble to the story. But it’s The Rulz that are going to change her world. First confronted by a handsome guy smoking. It’s disgusting, but she is drawn to him, but he does something that gets her into trouble. Leaving there she meets the surfer dude with an easy smile who worms out of her the story from the beach. And that is how she becomes introduced to The Rulz.

The Rulz is shrouded in secrecy to her. They torment her with rubber rats in her locker.  Each day leaving something to let her know they haven’t forgotten her and her torment is their joy. They don’t need a reason to torment her….they are The Rulz.

Little by little they work their way into her life. Both making her feel threatened and aroused. They have money and power. No one messes with them and gets away with it. But she isn’t bowing to them even if fear is taking her breath away.

The story is written in short bursts that hit you hard and fast. First person POV all Tinsley. You want to know why they have their sights set on her? Why are they tormenting her, but also seeming to care? Why don’t they just leave her alone? Why?

Tinsley does make friends with Gi who is best friends with Iris. They play a big role in Tinsley’s life. Iris is a bitch, but at times she lets her shields down and is honest or supportive of Ti. But she also doesn’t cut Ti any slack. Gi is more gentle and terribly scared of The Rulz. Ti doesn’t feel a part of their friendship at times either.

As you flow from torment to torment/courting to full out courting it becomes sort of weird. Like the torment merges with flirtation that messes with her mind. Sweet one moment, spitting on her hand or leaving a cigarette in her bathroom sink. It is that kind of bullying that isn’t fun, but they also start to show they care…like little boys in need to impress the girl, but not let her know they like her.

Remember Denny? He and Beth have a thing, but Denny one day flirts with Ti. Tinsley finally has some fun joking with him, pissing off Beth and making The Rulz notice. And Denny pays the price at the ditch for touching what The Rulz consider theirs.

Each one takes a kiss and it becomes aparent by the end of the story, The Rulz have a bet on who can take Ti’s virginity first. Except Ti isn’t a virgin. Now the rules have changed and The Rulz don’t know it yet.

NOTE: There is no sex in this story described. There is lewd language, kissing and a little groping.

The Delight

Tinsley is turning the table on The Rulz. She fights the attraction, tries to be tough and becomes a teenager well above her age. It still is gripping. You just want to know what’s up.

Review

Tinsley now has three guys after her. None of them seem jealous of each other, but they all want to get into her pants. The first book they seemed satified with kisses, now they are taking her on dates they don’t all dates and showing her a part of them they haven’t really shown anyone else.

Tinsley still keeps referring to herself as the dirty poor kid which gets kind of old after a bit. She’s enticing these men as revenge for what they put her through and are doing to her now. But she also keeps digging as to why her? Who are they? What makes them tick? Their families?

The ditch becomes a prominent part of the story as it is a place to bet on fights, but also a place to beat down guys who piss off The Rulz. And don’t forget there are some territory feuds from books I haven’t read.

Barr (smoker) gets the first date, showing off his piano skills. But his lovemaking skills are interupted with Claire has an “accident” in her car…which doesn’t have a scratch on it. Next is Kip (easy going surfer) who takes her to the beach to watch him surf and to show her is special cave only for a storm to come up and ruin Kip’s suave moves. And Pres (first guy she met) takes her on a motorcycle ride and the other two steal his ride.

Ti finally decides her course, but will this end her in BFH? And who told them she was a virgin?

NOTE: There is no sex in this story described. There is lewd language, kissing and a little groping that was heading towards sex, but didn’t get there.

The Delight

The final chapter of this series. Now things are heating up. And Ti is realizing what she has to do to survive. A wonderful ending to this story line.

Review

Before I get into the actual review I want to talk a little about some of the themes I saw going in that just don’t pan out, but also some disbelief.

First off, these are 18/19 year olds still in high school. The run the school, but at no time do you ever see the in class. In the halls, bleachers and parking lot, yes, but no teachers or classes. Weird. Then these kids are so rich they seem to act like they are adults with some deep running threads. One has a parent dying of ALS. Another is cheating. We don’t know another set that well. With a pair that are in real estate and know Claire. It’s like none of the parents know their kids. They skip school, they beat each other up, and just seem like a rotten group of people in general.

This is listed as a reverse harem story. While she does kiss the all, go places with them all, she doesn’t sleep with the all. It isn’t a m/f/m/m relationship. Thank goodness. It’s more of a triangle to see who gets her. So if you wanted a poly relationship, this isn’t it.

Next it also is a NA Romance, but I don’t list it that way. They are still in high school at the end of this story and really I have no idea what time of year it is to know if they are graduating soon or not. Time is fluid and uncaring.

Now that I got that all out of the way, let’s get to the review.

Tinsley tries to leave BFH several times and each time The Rulz thwarts her efforts. They throw the money from their bet to her, but then she believes they steal it right away. Now there is a threat to her and The Rulz isn’t letting her leave. While they surround her, protect her and try to make her happy, in no way did I see this as a reverse harem.

Tinsley is confused, torn, doesn’t feel she has a home and in general is being a teenager who has had a hard life. Claire isn’t all you think she is, she has a dark side. A family member is revealed…well two are revealed actually. Ti’s mom’s rehab is about to come to an end. And the entire world feels like it is on Ti’s shoulders.

With the threat to Ti, The Rulz surround her with their protection. No one mess with The Rulz. Remember Beth? Well Beth, Gi and Iris all used to be friends, but Beth did something that caused a split. We learn more about them all in this story and this comes to bit Ti in a way later on.

Little by little we peel back layers of The Rulz, what circumstances created them, what drives them and why they all have fallen for Tinsley. But she only loves one and she doesn’t know which one it is yet.

Everything keeps building and sometimes you just have to suspend your disbelief that these “kids” are running around doing all this without any kind of parental structure. The first scene in the first book finally gets explained as it was a future event that the story needed to be told. When it’s time to pick just one, you find out why the other two never had a chance. This doesn’t end their “love” for her, but they respect the other one enough to tease him mercilessly with their flirting.

So the story wraps us, but there is one dangling storyline not resolved. I was fine with that until I found out there was another series that continues the story from the point of view of each of The Rulz. So while this was over, you get to see the next threat facing Tinsley from Pres’s POV. Kip will be next. Barr…well, I hope he gets his story too, but maybe not.

While I like the writing, I am not sure I can handle more of this world. There are series dealing with other high school regions and it sounds like exhaustion to sort it all out. Maybe I will take a break and come back to find out more of this world. Or maybe not.

NOTE: There is sex in this story, graphic, but not erotic. There is lewd language, kissing and a lots of groping.

I can see how all the mystery would hook you in to see what was really going on around Tinsley. So funny that we both read a similar unique name.

The characters sure sound like an interesting bunch.

Sounds good. But at first, by looking at the cover I would not have guessed these were YAs.
