The Delight

Lorelei James brings new, innovative ways to delight us to her reading. Everything is fresh, exciting and passionate, never following the rules. Enemies turned lovers is an old troupe, but James brings a new spin to keep you engaged.

Unraveled takes place during the same time period as Schooled, where Ronin and Amery have traveled to Japan leaving behind Ronin’s sister Shiori and his second in command Knox to run his dojo. From first meeting Shiori and Knox have butted heads, arguing over anything and nothing at all.

The two circle each other, trade barbs, but the truth comes out that Shiori is a Domme one night at a club. Knox never really thought about his sexuality this way. He provides pain for the male customers, but never female customers. He works the bar, but when he looks at Shiori, all he wants to do is worship her. Being the good Domme Shiori has trained to be, she recognizes Knox is a submissive, but never pushes nor outs him to his friends and employees.

The two start a slow tango of sensuality, discovering what they want and need from this dynamic. While Knox is dominant in his work life, he is submissive in the bed. Shiori is dominant both places. The two ebb and flow learning what works for them. The true fun for me in the story was how Shiori and Knox didn’t use humiliation or even pain as a part of their dynamic. She was the dominant, but it was a loving dominant hand that guided them to what they both wanted.

There is the dojo to run and we see all the characters who we have come to love. I am waiting to see what happens with Molly and Deacon now that my curiosity has been fulfilled with Shiori and Knox. Black even makes an appearance that really upsets the whole apple cart.

The greatest part of this story is just how unique this relationship is. You see so many Domme stories where the heroine comes off as a bitch. Shiori is anything but a bitch. She is someone looking desparately for affection, love, companionship and she doesn’t really know what to do once she gets a steady does of it. She is strong, independent, and creative. Knox on the other hand is a dream submissive. He isn’t a wimp, pitiful or mental. While he rejects he is a submissive right away, he does come back to it wanting to experience it. Once he does, he struggles like normal. Through it all though, he is still a man. One who takes care of those he loves, protects them and makes sure they are alright. This is a man. So why can’t he be submissive?

The Mastered series is throwing out everything we know about BDSM and showing us couples make their own rules. There is no guidebook, do what is comfortable and unique to your relationship. Not everything has to be tied up with a bow on top, sometimes it gets messy and now right dirty. And that is what you have in Unraveled…living outside of the box society has made.

The wood floors were warm beneath his bare feet as he left the foyer and entered the main living area. He allowed a quick glance at the large space with a minimal amount of furniture before his gaze zoomed in on the candles flickering in the window.

Wow. What a view. It was too dark to see the Rockies in the distance, but the lights of Denver spread out as far as the eye could see. He took another quick look off to his left. More windows. Another bunch of furniture in front of a fireplace.

Then Knox faced forward and got into position: feet apart, shoulders back, hands clasped behind him. Normally his head would be up, but he suspected she’d want him looking at the ground.

He tried to calm his mind using the Zen tactics Ronin had taught him, but the thoughts bouncing around in his brain refused to be contained.

What are you doing here, almost naked and waiting for a woman to toy with you? No wonder you call her She-Cat. She’s the predator and you’re the prey.

How long would she make him wait?

Focus on breathing.

That helped.

She approached him from the side, so he saw her in his peripheral vision. He didn’t look at her, but the instant her hand caressed his biceps, his heart started to race.

Shiori continued to touch him. From his wrist to the ball of his shoulder, then her fingertips trailed across his back. She detoured up the back of his neck, pushing her hand through his hair to the top of his scalp and then back down to sweep along the curve of his shoulder and caressing his other arm.

Those simple, exploring touches brought his dick to full attention.

Her arms circled his waist and she pressed her face into his spine below his shoulder blades. “Quite a sight you are in my living room, Knox. All these acres of muscles to pet and squeeze and tease. I’m a lucky woman tonight.”

He closed his eyes, pleased by her praise.

Shari is the Delighted Reader. Married to her Prince Charming and mother to two Princesses and one Prince. When she is not slaving away as Cinderella she loves to get lost in the pages of a good book. Never without a reading device and a few good paperback books, because she never knows when she might get 5 minutes to read!
  • Ah, now this is exactly the type of Domme/submissive story I tend to like too. Glad it was a good story, Shari!

It was refreshing to see a Domme who wasn’t out to humiliate a submissive man. And an alpha male who’s submissiveness comes from taking care of a woman. There is a spanking, but it is punishment. Otherwise the relationship wasn’t about pain. It was about a woman needing affection after a bad marriage and a man looking for a woman to cherish. I like how Lorelei doesn’t stick to stereotypes.

  • I got the trilogy! Althoug I have to admit, I’m only interested on this one. Thanks Shari!

  • The relationship dynamic and characters have me curious..I love that she is someone who is looking for affection ..maybe even to feel safe? Lovely review

She had a very bad marriage where he did everything to get a divorce and her money. One thing the ex did was take her to clubs where she learned she liked being in control. With that control, she never really has relationships, but she gets what she needs in affection during the scene. But with Knox, she really gets the affection and comfort she craves and he gets to be the man who takes care of her. It was a refreshing look at Domme/sub.
