G is for Geekery!

Gideon!!!!! I go giddy over this particular geek.  He caught my eye from the moment he was introduced as a secondary character in the first book of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series, Kiss of Midnight.

First time Gideon appears in the series.

Each warrior had their reasons for choosing this dangerous way of life, and some of them were, admittedly, more noble than others.  Like Gideon, who worked the field independently until seeking out Lucan after his twin brothers- little more than children- were killed by Rogues outside the London Darkhaven.  That was three centuries ago, give or take a few decades.

Even then, Gideon’s skill with a sword had been rivaled only by his razor-sharp mind.  He had slain many Rogues in his time, but much later, devotion and a private pledge to his Breedmate, Savannah, had made him give up combat in exchange for wielding the weapon of technology in service to the Breed.  Pp. 67-68  Lucan and Gideon from Kiss of Midnight

After book ten in the series was finished, Gideon finally got his story told in a prequel novella called, A Touch of Midnight.

“One day you’ll stand in awe of what technology will do,” Gideon told them refusing to let them dampen his excitement.  No matter how big a geek he was being.

“Okay cool.  Whatever you say,”  Dante replied.  His broad mouth quirked.  “But in the meantime, no Pong?”

Gideon gave him the one-fingered salute, smiling in spite of himself.”  p. 25  Gideon and Dante from A Touch of Midnight

Gideon glanced into her velvet brown gaze, and knew a sudden fierce protectiveness surge through him.  Sending her away now was out of the question.  It was his duty to walk her into his world gently.  He bristled at the thought of letting a stranger out of the Enforcement Agency or civilian ranks step in where this woman was concerned.

His woman.

The claim swept up on him from somewhere deep in his subconscious, a sharp, primal thing.  It throbbed in his veins, drumming hard in his ears with every beat of his heart.

And he needed her too.  p. 88 Gideon from A Touch of Midnight

“Afraid of you?  No.”  “You’re the only thing that feels right to me, Gideon.”  p. 95  Savannah from A Touch of Midnight

I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.

I so need to get back to that series. I read book one and enjoyed it then while searching for the other books lost track of it. Darn tbr list and so many other books! I do love a geeked out hero. They’re just endearing and fun to watch 🙂

I was given a sack of books from my co-worker and there were five from this series. Hadn’t heard of them, but said hey why not and jumped in while on a camping trip. Loved them. Yeah, my TBR pile is just hideously huginormous. I cringe even when people offer sacks of books now. But yes! I take them. Haha! I’ve even gotten better about offering my own pile in exchange to keep from getting buried in books.
Oh yes, I love the geeks.

I am caught up on this series and anxiously awaiting the next release in August…why so long? Gideon’s story was one of my favorites. It was just a novella 🙁 But I love the reboot the series has gotten as I was getting tired of the series the way it was.

I’m hoping to catch up by reading Edge of Dawn sometime this month. I just read Gideon’s novella, the short story about Conlan’s widow and Chase’s book last month. I look forward to the next generation books.

Gideon and Savannah’s novella was good, but I really wish it could have been a novel-length though it would need a different plot challenge that would help it last longer and give them more time to get to know each other.

Haha! Yes, I saw it was ‘H’ today so I just went with it. Do we get ‘G’ tomorrow? I love each of your posts.
