We’re ringing in the New Year with lots of giveaways!
And by sharing some fun and wacky facts about ourselves.
There’s a new giveaway at each stop so be sure to visit them all!

Hello, my name is Shari!

I am the owner of Delighted Reader which opened up in July of 2011.
Let’s get to the fun stuff.

  • I am extremely detailed oriented and have to fight myself to just Let It Go!
  • I am a huge Disney fan. I ran a Disney blog before I started reviewing books (but read long before I went to Disney)
  • I have family members who are nudist. Not me, but close enough that I wanted to go ewwwww!
  • I will have been married 20 years in March. Who knew he could put up with me that long!
  • I hoard scrapbooking supplies. I have an entire room in my basement for it, but haven’t scrapbooked in 4 years since my son was born and two years later dumped over all my glitter bottles. The Great Glitter War of 2011.

Shari is the Delighted Reader. Married to her Prince Charming and mother to two Princesses and one Prince. When she is not slaving away as Cinderella she loves to get lost in the pages of a good book. Never without a reading device and a few good paperback books, because she never knows when she might get 5 minutes to read!

    1. I have to get down there soon and clean the room up including the glitter I have been avoiding for almost 4 years. We are getting gigbyte fiber wire internet access soon and it has to run in the drop ceiling above my craft room. I just need to bite the bullet and go down here. It doesn’t help that my oldest child has pushed into my room to make it a closet as well since her closet houses the up pump that destroyed tons of her stuff when it leaked. So yeah, the Great Glitter War is going to get messier when I get down there to clean it up.

  1. I can grow anything like crazy outside…. inside I can kill even an aloe vera plant…..ugh

    1. I wish I could grow anything! I am a plant serial killer when I don’t want to be. I even told the landscape company to put in things that don’t need love. So far we have lost 5 plants out there. I am going next week to talk to them about replacing them with something heartier.

Oh, I and I want a garden this year to make rubs for my smoking of meats. Unfortunately I think my flavors will be off with rotten veggies.

      1. I have to say I was sitting here laughing my ass off because I thought you said you wanted some rubs for when you are smoking weed I read it four times as I kept reading it that way lol !

        1. Oh, no! I don’t smoke anything. I own a smoker that I make ribs and pulled pork with and I am thinking of rubs to put on the meats before I put them in the smoker. No way would I ever smoke weed, cigarette or cigar. I learned my lesson when I was a kid and tried and got violently sick. So nope, I just stick to smoking like a grill for supper time 🙂

    1. Glitter is not something that comes out at all from carpet, especially when it is a huge pile of it ground in. Like 6 bottles of glitter. I wasn’t a happy camper.

I love animals as well, but we don’t have any zoos. We do have horses and cows aplenty.

    1. I totally get that. I am a mom of 3, who reads and reviews. My hat off to you for having more kids. I feel like I am always running from 6-8am then 3-11pm.

  2. Hello, I’m Nikki, love to read, don’t have the patience to be a book blogger even though I’ve got a website that I’m trying to set up (still after lots of months)…. LOL and I love Brussel Sprouts.

    1. I totally understand not having patience. I created this blog quickly, but I have been redesigning it for about a year and still no where near actually getting it finished. Oh, I detest brussel sprouts! Glad someone loves them.

  3. Hello, I’m Lekeisha, and I’m an alcoholic. JUst kidding!! I can’t even drink a beer. One of my personality flaws? Book related: I have to have matching series covers for books. Don’t change a series cover in the middle of the series if you want me to remain sane. I hate when publishers think they are doing a good thing. Just no. I want all my books to match. Glad they saw reason on The Winner’s Kiss cover. I almost went postal.

    1. Haha! Here’s another confession. I will never drink beer because it tastes horrible to me. But I don’t drink much because it puts me to sleep. I don’t get tipsy or anything, I just basically fall asleep, so there isn’t any enjoyment from it.

  4. I’ve been with my husband for 10 years, has worked with me at Wal-Mart, even, and he just figured out that the reason I don’t go to concerts with him (he’s an AVID metal head and loves to go to concerts…think MOSHPIT). I have personal space issues and react with intense violence when I feel too cornered. So, to save on bail, and ruining his good time, I just opt not to go. Which makes me very sad today because this month I have a chance to see Anthrax, but the venue is small and is standing room only, which only increases my anxiety.

    1. Sorry to hear you have personal space issues. I get the same way at times. My husband took my oldest daughter to Louder Than Life in Louisville in October to see Shinedown, Atreyu, Starset, and more that I can’t remember. They got stuck in a mosh pit and crowd surfing that terrified my daughter really bad. So they learned to stay back further to just enjoy the music sitting on the ground. They got lucky and someone the next day gave them VIP passes so they got to sit on bleachers, be nearby but not have the crushing crowd. I can totally relate. I am not a crowd person, but I can tolerate it for a little bit.

      1. We saw Fear Factory in Louisville this past year. He figured it out after that show because there was this guy who I refer to as “Blue Waldo” who ended up kicked out because he was being a jerk in the mosh pit. I just stood by the bar in the corner and enjoyed the music. My husband…he was in the pit causing mayhem. It was a small venue though. One half was a bar, the other a stripclub. It’s awesome that someone gave them bleacher seat tickets. That’s very kind of them.

        1. I think I would be the one in the back trying to stay away from everyone. Not that I don’t like people, I am just uncomfortable in crowds like you.

    1. Thank you Debbie! Yep, 20 years is coming up and it looks like I will be at a dance competition with my daughters and not with my husband. That’s the break with dance season runs the same time as our anniversary. Maybe we can celebrate our 25 when one kid will be in college (yikes), one a senior in high school and the other a 4th grader.

    1. Oh, good one! I am a stay at home mom too, but I try to keep the cupcakes away or I would turn into one!

  5. Hi! I am a stay-at-home mom of two boys. Both are in school, and I’m really hoping to be able to continue to stay home. I love it too much to go back to work. lol. A quirky thing about me is I am a concert junkie. I go to many, many live shows a year. Love it!

    1. I am also a stay at home mom to 3 kids ranging from kindergarten to high school. I too hope to continue this as this is my first year without a kid in the house for 7 hours 5 days a week. Doesn’t mean I get more done as I love to read.

    1. I used to love to scrapbook, but when my son started dumping glitter and other stuff, it became an off limits room. Now that he is in school, I need to get into that room and get it all cleaned up to use again.

  6. My name is Terri and I can’t resist buying blank journals. I have several lifetimes supply and will never be able to use them all, but can’t resist adding to my collection!

    1. Oh, I love journals and notebooks. I walked into Staples yesterday and luckily my husband caught me before I started buying all those pretty things.

  7. Thanks for sharing some fun facts about yourself! I didn’t knew you was such a big disney fan and had a disney blog before this one. I watched a lot of disney movies as a kid and loved them then, but haven’t watched any for a while now. I also didn’t know you had so many scrapbooking supplies, at least if you ever want to pick it up again you want.

    1. HUGE Disney fan! I went on my honeymoon in 1996 and have been hooked since. I also almost made it onto the Disney Mom’s Panel one year, but my hopes were dashed. I own a lot of the movies still on VHS, DVD and now BluRay. I just got back from Disney *wink* and going again in March for my daughters to do some workshops and a performance. Then again in June for a family vacation! I have just tempered my love for Disney as some of the boards and FB groups were getting to fanatical for my liking.

I can’t say I have scrapbooked in 5 years. I finally got the room to do it in and my son started destroying it. I just have been waiting for him to go back to school so I can pick it up again.

  8. I have a friend who runs a nudist half-marathon at one of the nudist colonies in Florida. They usually post pictures with censored bars… but I can only think how painful all the jiggy bits would be!

  9. I’m Paula B., and I have synesthesia, which means I often experience one sense in terms of another. For example, I see people’s voices in terms of color, texture, and shape.

      1. I love it! In fact, I’m trying to cultivate it. Ever since I realized I have it, I notice it all the time. For most of my life I’ve seen letters of the alphabet in colors and designs, but I didn’t realize until a couple of years ago that it goes much further than that. One of my favorite blues singers has a gilt-edged voice. When he sings, I actually see a golden edge to his voice in my mind’s eye.

  10. I’m Renee and I also hoard scrapbook supplies. I buy more at least once a month for some project or other. I use them to make different things, not just scrapbooks. The last things I made with my scrapbook supplies were Little notebooks and recipe card holders for my girlfriends for Christmas. Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win.

    1. You sound like me. Each Christmas I have craft projects. The excess end up in boxes that get shoved in my scrapbook room. Hence why I will be cleaning it out and up in the coming weeks.

    1. I had to Google Scrapple. Interesting. My husband puts French dressing on chopsteak on a dinner roll. Not totally weird but he does it a particular restaurant where “sandwiches” aren’t really a thing.

    1. Yes! I always make my to do lists on paper and then put them in the computer. I haven’t found one to do list electronically that is easy to maintain like a notebook.

    1. I keep a stack of shoe boxes in my closet since my kids had to start making dioramas all the time. People look at me weird when they put their coats in there.

  11. I’m Maranda and I’ve been binge watching Nurse Jackie like crazy lately. I definitely recommend.

    1. Haven’t watch that. I recently binge watched Sons of Anarchy. Then The Originals and I am currently binge watching The Vampire Diaries. Not as good as Buffy used to be. I love the new Marvel shows on NetFlix as I can watch Dare Devil or Jessica Jones all at once.

  12. I keep way too many papers of all kinds – my family says there will be a big bonfire when I’m gone.

  13. My name is Joann, I am a Pepsiholic, I love 70’s music, comedies and am going through mid life!!

    1. I can’t drink Pepsi, but I know a lot of people who love it. I can take or leave 70s and 80s music even though I grew up in those generations. Romantic comedies are my downfall.

    1. That is one to avoid if possible. Had blood work this week so I as there, but not deep into the hospital. Only actually been a patient when I gave birth. Two times to the ER, one pregnancy related and the other when I tore my Achilles heel.

  14. I’m Janet but I go by Jan. I’m a great aunt to a 3 year old and a 4 year old. I didn’t think I’d be a great aunt ever, lol

  15. My name is Natasha and I love metal music and playing The Sims 2 and 3.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  16. I’m Amber 🙂 A quirky thing about myself: I love anything glittery…I’m like a magpie on crack when it comes to scoping out sparkly things. Thanks for the chance to win!!

  17. Something quirky…here’s 2 About food. #1: I can’t stand it if my food touches on a plate. #2:I refuse to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich unless it’s cut into squares. I’m still convinced that it tastes different (and bad) if it’s in triangles.

  18. Hi my name is Gabi and about five times a day I will break out in song even though I cannot sing!

  19. Hi! My name is Jackie. I work in a library, see so many books I want to read, but don’t make the time to read them all.

  20. Hello! My name is Barrie and I’m a mom, avid reader and coffee addict. I was named after a female surfer in the 60’s…I found her on FB a few years back!

  21. Hi I am Anita (anbpowers) and a quirky thing about me is I won’t eat meat on a bone like a chicken leg lol

  22. I’m JoAnna. I used to horde scrapbook supplies as well. Got rid of most of those supplies because of smoke damage from a fire.

  23. Hi, I’m Jen. I will only eat chocolate if it has enough other flavour (mint, orange or coffee) that I can’t actually taste it any more.

  24. I played sports for the first time when I was 32. I was one of two female hockey players. I rocked as goalie!

  25. Hi, my name is Jessica and a quirky thing about me is that I’m always reading at least three books at a time.

  26. Hi my name is Cynthia and I am often described as the cheapest person anyone knows, I love extreme couponing, yard sales, and finding great clothes and books at thrift stores

  27. My name is Michelle when I play cards I have to keep the card piles squared and neat…my family will purposely mess them up while we are playing and talking…and I subconsciously neaten them until at some point I realize what they are doing and tell them to stop it…
