Help us in welcoming to PA DePaul and Julie Ann Walker to Delighted Reader!!

Sophia Rose and Shari double teamed these authors with hard hitting questions…let’s get down to it

First up…PA Depaul

What is your favorite thing about your hero?  About your heroine?

Author-PA DePaulFor the hero, Cappy, I love how devoted he is to his team. He’s extremely loyal and their safety is his number one priority. He can rule with an iron fist when he needs to as well as allow his operatives the freedom to get the job done as they see fit.

For the heroine, Michelle, I love how she’s you and me. What I mean is, she’s a civilian who hasn’t had years of hardcore training with the hourglass body of Weightlifter Barbie. She’s put in extreme situations and reacts like we would.

What pleasure book is the next book on your TBR pile?

OY! Oh man. *stares at TBR Bookcase and way too many titles on the eReader*

Hot As Hell by my blog-post mate Julie Ann Walker will definitely be high on the list when it releases. As for a book already in the stack, I’d have to say The Shadows by JR Ward…No, Bring on the Dusk by M.L. Buchman…No, Grave Visions by Kalayna Price…No, Eight Grave After Dark by Darynda Jones, No…dang. I don’t get as much time to read anymore as I’d like to so it takes me forever to decide what to read next.

Quick one:  Sports Car or Motorcycle (driver or passenger)?

Definitely sports car. Driver, of course. I love looking at motorcycles and watching them careen down the road but don’t really picture me on the back of one. Now, put me in a Lamborghini Aventador or Ferrari’s LaFerrari? Mmmm….Hell yeah!

Quick one:  Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, or Sci-Fi, seriously?

Star Wars! Love those movies…the original three are my favorites but I enjoy the others too.

ShadowofDoubtWho is PA DePaul and what’s the one thing we will love about her the most?

If you were to ask my family and friends they’d say she is a dreamer. An extremely organized but scattered brain dreamer. I blame my characters!! They’re ALWAYS talking to me (even when they give me the cold shoulder, something in their world is churning in my head).

I’d say we will love her sense of humor most. I’m a policeman’s daughter so to say I can come up with “zingers” and snappy comebacks is a product of growing up in my family (the holidays were always fun!).

Were you involved in the cover design process?

Yes but only after the design was finished. When my editor presented it to me for my approval I squealed. Needless to say, there wasn’t much, if anything, to change.

What attracts Jeremy to Michelle and vice versa?

Jeremy (AKA Cappy) loves her strength and courage. She survived a hell most of us can’t comprehend and she learned how to live despite what happened to her.

Michelle loves Cappy (AKA Jeremy)’s loyalty and willingness to put a civilian’s safety above his own just to rescue her from hell. He may seem like a reserved man but he has a huge heart.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

  1. JULIE ANN WALKER! No, seriously. I’m not just saying that because she’s also on this post. She could write the next phone book and I’ll be preordering it. If you love heart-pounding action, page-turning suspense, kick-ass heroes who aren’t afraid to have a heart and heroines who can be a heroes’ equal, then she’s one you have to read!
  2. Darynda Jones definitely makes my list of favorite authors. Her paranormal books are awesome with the right blend of action and humor.
  3. JR Ward, M.L. Buchman, Laura Kaye, Chloe Neill, Gena Showalter, Janet Evanovich…I could keep going but I promised myself I would stop.

Thank Delighted Reader so much for host Julie Ann Walker and I today!! Anyone have any questions for us? Want to just say hello? Cool! We’d love to hear from you!

Next Up…Julie Ann Walker

What is your favorite thing about your hero?  About your heroine?

Oh, that’s so easy! Michael “Mad Dog” Wainwright is a guy who’s all guts and no glory. He has absolutely no quit in him, which is exactly what my heroine needs when she’s held hostage by terrorists. And Harper Searcy is a tough-as-nails foreign secretary with the brains and the brass balls to not only survive her ordeal but to bring my hero to his knees. Together, they’re an unstoppable team!

What pleasure book is the next book on your TBR pile?

JulieMy gal pal Kate Meader had a debut last month. The title of the book is FLIRTING WITH FIRE. It’s the first in Kate’s Hot In Chicago series about ssssmokin’ sexy firefighters. I can’t wait to dig in!

Quick one:  Sports Car or Motorcycle (driver or passenger)?

Puh-lease! MOTORCYCLE ALL THE WAY! And as long as the guy driving is rough, tough, and ready to rumble, I’m fine being the passenger. *wink, wink*

Quick one:  Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, or Sci-Fi, seriously?

Star Trek! In fact my husband and I started dating because we were both Trekkies. Unfortunately we soon learned that we were a house divided. He thinks The Next Generation is the best Star Trek iteration and I’m a fan of Voyager. Sometimes the arguments get heated. Which, yes, means we’re total nerds.

We understand your story is part of a themed anthology for the Wounded Warrior Project.  Would you please tell us a bit more about that?

I’d love to! It’s been my dream since my very first title hit the shelves in 2012 to do a charity anthology for the Wounded Warrior Project. Luckily, when I approached my publisher last year with the idea, they were only too happy to jump onboard. The book is titled WAY OF THE WARRIOR and it features eight short stories by some of the leading voices in romantic suspense. WAY OF THE WARRIOR debuts May 5th, and all author and publisher proceeds go to support the Wounded Warrior Project. It’s available for sale and download everywhere, so pre-order your copy today and know you’re supporting a great cause!

Lots of wonderful writers associated with military romance are participating in the anthology.  I’ve always wondered how a group of writers figure out who gets to write about what when there are this many tackling one theme.  How does that work?  Do you have a fun anecdote you can share about working together on this one?

I was both blessed and humbled by the quick agreement to participate by every author I approached about this project. Their willingness to donate their time and talent still brings tears to my eyes and a song to my heart! As for the creative process itself, that was easy. I just told the authors to write a short story that starred a soldier (either active duty, retired, or veteran) and to let their imaginations take flight. They didn’t disappoint. Every story is unique and wonderful, and I can’t wait for readers to get their hands on this collection! Publishers Weekly gave it a starred review and called it “a must-read!”

23158405Does your story have a connection to your Black Knights series or your new Deep Six Series?

It does! My short story in the anthology is called HOT AS HELL, and it’s the prequel to my first Deep Six title, HELL OR HIGH WATER, which debuts this July. Readers will be introduced to the Deep Six team and hopefully start falling a little bit in love with the Deep Six heroes.

What was your hero’s first impression of the heroine and vice versa?

My hero thought my heroine was a sassy, mouthy redhead with big brass clackers. LOL! And my heroine thought my hero was a handsome-as-homemade-sin SEAL who would steal her heart if she wasn’t careful. Both first impressions were true! *grins*

Favorite flavor of ice cream?

I’m a simple girl. It’s chocolate. Rich, creamy, delicious chocolate.

Favorite color? Does it evoke any emotions?

My favorite color (currently) is turquoise. It reminds me of the water in the Caribbean where I spent some time doing research for my new Deep Six series!

Where do you find humor when your character’s lives are in peril?

Luckily there’s a name for it: gallows humor. And I’ve been around soldiers enough to know that they become so used to living life on the edge that despite the gravity of any situation, they find something to laugh or joke about. So when I’m writing a scene, I just try to channel some of the soldiers I know, and by doing that, inevitably funny things will come out of my characters’ mouths.

Favorite pizza toppings?

Black olives. Love ’em!

Favorite board game?

Cards Against Humanity. I laugh so hard when I’m playing that game. We’re talking tears and rolling around on the ground.

      • Sue G.

Not me…teal blue has been my color since 1984! Oops…dating myself…it was my wedding color even back before the color was popular.

Straight out of the can is the best way! Now I’m hungry….mmmm?

        • LOL! I used to be a big fan of green (Hunter green in the fall and sage in the spring), but lately it’s the blues. *shrugs* who knows why. 😀

      • Your answers were fun and glad you could visit. I’ve got your books on the list. I definitely want Cappy’s story, but I’ve got Grady on the list first.

        • Woohoo!! Love hearing that!! 🙂

    • Shari Delighted Read

Love you lady! I was so happy to meet you at AAD in 2013 and win autographed books because my birthday is on your anniversary! I gobble up each and every book you write!

    • Hey, yeah, you gals were good sports to answer all our questions. I’m almost done with the antho now. You and the others wrote a fab book. I’ve laughed, teared up, chewed my nail (figuratively) and got the ‘ah, adorables’

  • Missy Clifton

I absolutely love Exchange of Fire, I can’t wait till I can get my hands on Shadow of Doubt.

Right there with you on Cappy…and Romeo…and Talon…and Grady…er, hmmm…I guess I just find all the Delta men dreamy!! 😀

    • Woot! Woot! Music to my ears Missy!!! 😀
I hope you enjoy Shadow of Doubt just as much!

  • I love Star Trek too. I never really go into the Star Wars movies. I think it would be hard to pick a book from the tbr pile but I like both your choices.

    • Hi Mary!!! So glad you stopped by!! 😀

  • Great interview! It’s fun getting to know these two authors. I also love Star Wars, although the newer trilogy is my favourite, maybe because I watched those first. I am currently watching Star Trek Voyager with my boyfriend and I love the series so far! I also have trouble picking my next read sometimes.

    • Hi Lola! *Waving* Glad to hear another Star Wars fan has joined the discussion! 🙂 Don’t get me wrong, I respect the Trek but I lean toward Han and Lea. 🙂

  • Thanks so much for hosting PA and JulieAnn, Shari!

You know. I can’t see myself riding a motorcycle. I’d totally tip myself over. Not even gonna pretend I wouldn’t. lol

    • LOL! You can ride in the sports car with me Anna!! 😀

  • I do love those loyal and devoted heroes the best. Great interview you have here!!! i love Star Trek too, I grew up with TNG so I love that, but Voyager is so different from the others and I love it just as much. I actually have a hard time deciding which one I love more. And Star Wars is so fantastic and fun to watch, Han and Leia are just classic together.

    • Hi Lover of Romance!!!
Thanks for dropping by! I may not be as versed in all the Star Trek’s but I agree with you on TNG and Voyager. And to me, you just can’t go wrong watching Han and Leia together. 😀

  • TWO interviews, well done! I’ve not heard much about DePaul, but I’ll be sure to check her out now, and I’ve had Walker on my list for-freaking-ever. Thanks for the nudge 😉 Great post!

    • Hi Jessica!! I thank ya adding me to your TBR pile. 😀
As for Julie Ann, I call her books my crack. I’m always waiting for my next fix. 😉

  • This was my first time reading about DePaul, I did pick up book one and I am even more excited. I too love loyal heroes.

    • Woot! Woot! Love to hear it! I hope you enjoy! 😀

  • Jenny Dauksa Schaber

This is a fabulous interview. Thanks so much for sharing with us. This tour has introduced me to books and an author that I look forward to reading.
