Today we welcome a special guest to Delighted Reader to help launch her latest book release, A Tiger’s Bride, but she is no stranger to many of us. Whether your fancy runs to shifters, witches, demons, cyborgs, purple aliens, or the odd human she has written them a romance sprinkled with her irreverent humor and sinfully hot heroes. Her stories are a hoot and favorites of mine when I want a quick, humorous, and sexy read. Have you figured out who our guest is? Eve Langlais, that’s who!
Here she comes now! Hey, Eve, over here! I thought it would be fun to meet for a picnic lunch under a shady tree at this lakeside park with a great view of Lake Erie. I hope you don’t mind the nearness to the sand volleyball game and the sweaty athletic guys trying to pummel the ball at each other. Um, Eve…
Thought we lost you for a second. Here, I have something ice cold to drink in the cooler and help yourself to a plate of the barbeque goods, sides, and desserts. It sure is hot today, but at least the breeze off the water keeps the humidity from being too awful. Whew! Has this summer gone by quickly or what? Anything interesting happen this summer for you?
This summer flew by for me, but it did have some memorable moments. As many of you know, I launched the A Lion’s Pride series in early June. To my utter delight, the first three books hit not only USA Today but also the New York Times. Lions on bestseller lists, so funny! I attended a few conventions including the Lori Foster Get Together in Ohio and Authors After Dark in Atlanta where I had a smashing time and got to meet lots of awesome readers. But that’s not all my summer entailed, in between writing and work, I tried to make sure I spent time with my family, either soaking in the pool, or watching them kayak on the lake. It seems like I blinked and summer was already gone (which sucks because that means big bad winter is marching my way. lol)
I know you’re out visiting readers at the blogs today for a certain Siberian Tiger getting his story now, but I wanted to back track a bit. Some readers may not be familiar with your latest series. For those who haven’t heard the word yet on them yet, hook us in on A Lion’s Pride series:
Oh goodness. My lion’s in a nutshell—fast paced, humorous romance with heroes that aren’t just delicious, they roar. Lol. When I began this series, I was in the mood to do something light hearted and fun, but I didn’t want to follow the current bear trend. I became fascinated by lions when I discovered they can’t actually purr, which in turn gave me my first title, When An Alpha Purrs. The purring the hero does happens when he’s in his human shape, and let’s just say the heroine is usually the cause, lol. For characterization, I drew on a male lion’s arrogance, pride in his appearance(don’t touch my fluffy mane!) and stoic nature. From this premise, my first three heroes came to life. As to the naughty tiger in the fourth book? He hijacked me and insisted on a story of his own.
Got a favorite moment from A Tiger’s Bride?
Wow, there’s a few, but I think my favorite is the panic when Dmitri finds out his bride (whom he abducted and married) is a virgin.
The gulp of alcohol hit him wrong, and he sputtered. Choked. He also gasped. She came to his rescue, pounding on his back with vigor.
When he could manage to siphon a small ounce of air, he asked, in a hoarse voice, “What did you say?” Surely he’d misunderstood.
“I said I was a virgin. But not for long. I’m sure you know how to take care of that.”
Indeed he did. Or would, if he could gather his senses.
When he’d asked for innocence, he’d never expected true innocence. Not in one as splendid as her.
Pure and mine. Surely there was a catch? “You want me to seduce you?”
“You are my husband. Seduction, claiming, whatever you want to call it. I’ve been waiting a long time. I can’t wait to see what it’s like.” She smiled at him, expectation thick in the air around her.
Expectations of him.
Was it him, or had this marriage just taken a troublesome turn? No more was this just a simple joining of bodies. The act of their joining was now fraught with peril. So much pressure now resided on him. A woman’s first time was something she never forgot and, from what he’d heard over the years, not always fondly remembered.
What if she hates it?
His sister had once said something about the deed never being able to live up to the expectation.
What if I fail and she never craves my touch again?
Teena’s first time had to be perfect. Utterly memorable.
He needed more alcohol.
Any music running through your head while writing this one or was there a well-known figure who inspired a character?
This series doesn’t have a theme song (unlike my cyborgs that I like to write while humming Styxx’s Mr. Roboto). But if I had to choose a guy to play one of the lions, golden charmer Tatum Channing comes to mind.
In the story, the tiger has gone with the old abduction ploy to get his woman. Since abduction is something of a thing with your aliens, I’m curious what they might have to say on the subject. What advice would the big purple fellas share with Stripes, here?
Lol, me and my abduction stories. You can see my love for historical pirate romances shining through there. As to advice, my purple mercenaries would probably have only one thing to say. “If you want her, take her. And kill anyone in your way…” lol
And that brings me to another matter of curiosity… I have always been amazed by your can-do creative writing spirit sort of like Star Trek’s going where no man has gone before. Was there a moment when you had that ‘Whoa girl! That’s just crazy and we can’t take this book there’ conversation with yourself? And did you end up listening or did you plow right through and write it?
Lol, yes and no. There are times when I’m writing and I’m just like, “Oh no they didn’t.” Then I giggle and keep going. Part of my joy in writing is trying to not be too predictable and to strive for real dialogue under weird circumstances. Example, girl sees guy shapeshift for the first time, she’s not going to be, “Oh you big hunk of furry love!” Chances are she screams, tells him to keep his furry paws off her and worries she’ll start baying at the moon.
Back to school time has arrived. Let’s do something fun with this theme and pretend all your couples have been busy making families and it’s time to send mom’s little junior and daddy’s little girl off to school.
- What can we expect for a school clothes shopping trip with one of your Lion’s Pride mated pairs? The girl’s in the pride are totally into pink and trendy. While the little boys, they’re dressed to the nines by mommy in button down shirts and khakis, and then sent to public school. By the time they graduate, these well dressed lions can get someone to retract an insult without even rolling up their perfectly pressed cuffs.
- Buying school supplies with an Alien Abduction pair? Well, the purple guys are all for leather pants because you can clean the guts off them easier, and their mates are good with that too because they’ve got better things to do with their time than laundry. A must have as well is the latest backpack with a threaded slot for their sword.
- Note home from the teacher with a couple from Welcome to Hell? To the parents of this hell spawn, uou will be utterly delighted to know that your child is a disruptive influence who is constantly setting things on fire and then blaming others. He’s a fine example of demonic parenting at its best.
- School Open House with a Cyborgs couple? Ah, dad, why do I have to go to school. We’ve already downloaded everything I need to know into my brain chip interface.
- Sporting game for a witch and her guy? Hot cauldron skinny dip. First one to get out because its too hot has to pleasure the other, 😉 lol
And in the real world, any memorable Back to School moments? Or have you ever put something in your child’s lunchbox they didn’t expect? Our back to school moments tend to involve giddy singing and grumpy faced kids. I don’t think I’ve ever put anything strange in their lunch although I have occasionally forgotten to give them a spoon.
So what’s next for The Lion’s Pride Series? Any other projects you would like to share with the class?
After A Tiger’s Bride, there are no plans for another book. Yet. I’ve had many requests to do something for tough as nails Luna. It’s a possibility. In October, we’ve got the next Welcome to Hell book, titled Hell’s Geek, which is a wild adventure in the pit. And then sometime in November or December we’ll see the first book in my Kodiak Point spin off. Croc’s Return is coming and let me just say, this hero has bite, lol.
Enjoyed having you drop by today, Eve!
And for one lucky commenter, Eve has brought a paper copy of When An Alpha Purrs. Make a comment or question on the interview, share your own memorable Back to School moment, or leave a little love for Eve. Giveaway is International.A Tiger's Bride by Eve Langlais
When at first you don’t succeed–turn to abduction.
It’s all in a day’s work when this Russian Siberian tiger meets the woman he wants.
An accidental kidnapping? Check.
A forced marriage? Check.
A virgin bride? Damn. There go his plans for seduction and here comes the pressure into making her first time perfect. Because everyone knows that’s the one she’ll remember, forever. Gulp.
Add in a plane crash as well as hunters out to capture them and the heat is truly on.
Can this suave Russian mobster meet the challenge?
