Today we are excited to welcome Macy Beckett to Delighted Reader!
MB: Thanks so much—I’m delighted to be here! (Get it? Hehe.)
Q: Can you please tell us a little about Sultry Springs and what drew you to create this small town?
MB: Sultry Springs is a quirky fictional setting I created based on my experiences living in tiny southern towns. I’m always drawn to small towns, but I can’t explain why. I prefer living in the suburbs.
Q: For our readers, can you tell us a little about A Shot of Sultry?
MB: This is Trey’s story, who you met in book one, Sultry with a Twist. He’s partnered with his best friend’s little sister, Bobbi Gallagher, who has returned to Sultry Springs to film a dating reality show in which Trey is the star bachelor.
Q: What is the most challenging and rewarding part of writing about Sultry Springs?
MB: The most challenging part is simply sitting my butt in the chair and getting it done. It takes discipline. The reward comes when I type THE END. Really, there’s no greater satisfaction than finishing a novel, even knowing there’s more work to come in edits.
Q: How many books will be in the Sultry Springs series?
MB: As of now, just three. I may revisit this decision in the future.
Q: In A Shot of Sultry, the heroine follows around the bachelors Trey and Colton (who is the sheriff)? Will we get to see more of Colton?
MB: Actually, Colton is a deputy in A Shot of Sultry, but by the time book three opens, he’s the sheriff. And yes, you’ll see MUCH more of Crazy Colt—book three is his!
Q: What is a day in the life of Macy Beckett like while under a writing deadline?
MB: Really boring. Picture me sitting in front of my laptop all day and usually into the night. I have three series with three different publishers, (visit my website for more information), so that’s basically my life right now. I keep promising to slow down, but there’s always another book itching to get out of my head.
Q: Coffee, tea or hot chocolate?
Q: Where do you come up with all the one liners that had me rolling around laughing at times?
MB: I’m a natural cut-up, that person who’s always trying to make everyone laugh. I have a quirky sense of humor, and it leaks out into my books. My teachers used to call me a “ham.” (And they were right.)
Q: Is there any real life inspiration that get sneaked into the story line?
MB: Just my experiences living in the south. For example, Bobbi discovers the wonder of grits in A Shot of Sultry. I loooooooove me some grits!
Q: Bobbi has had a very hard life. What drove you to make her young life seem so tragic?
MB: I like crafting characters with real personality flaws, and in life, those kinds of flaws are usually the byproduct of a troubled past. Besides, I established in book one that Luke and Bobbi’s mother was a total flake, so I had to keep it consistent.
Q: What does your family think about your writing?
MB: I have the most awesome and supportive family in the world! They don’t all read my books, (my sister’s skeeved out by the thought of reading my sex scenes), but they’re so proud of me, and they make that quite clear. My dad has even added my website and book links to his email signature!
Q: Will we get to see any more of Bobbi’s sidekicks in future novels? Blue hair still there?
MB: Ah, you mean Weezus! Yes, Bobbi’s camera crew makes a brief cameo appearance in the third book.
Q: So what is up next for Colton and when can we expect his book to come out?
MB: I love Crazy Colt. His story is titled Surrender to Sultry, and it releases in August. In the final book, Colt gets his second chance with Leah McMahon, the girl who got away.
Thanks for stopping by Delighted Reader today. We really enjoyed talking with you!
MB: My pleasure! Thanks for having me. Stay in touch, and happy reading!
A SHOT OF SULTRY BY MACY BECKETT – IN STORES MARCH 2013
Welcome to Sultry Springs, Texas: where home can be the perfect place for a fresh start.
For West Coast filmmaker Bobbi Gallagher, going back to Sultry Springs is a last resort. But with her career in tatters, a quick trip to her hometown might get her the footage she needs to salvage her reputation. She just can’t let anything distract her again. Not even the gorgeous contractor her brother asked to watch over her. As if she can’t handle filming a few rowdy Texans.
Golden boy Trey Lewis, with his blond hair and Technicolor-blue eyes, is a leading man if Bobbi ever saw one. He’s strong and confident and–much to her delight–usually shirtless. He thinks keeping his best friend’s baby sister out of trouble will be easy. But he has no idea of the trouble in store for him…
