It seems like forever since I read Casey’s Warriors, which was the start of a new series by Ann Mayburn about aliens needing women after their women went a little crazy. See, the men live long lives and usually pick a bondmate male. They love each other as they look for their female mate. With the majority of natural born female aliens having turned in to psychos, they need to “harvest” women from other planets. When they find a female mate that they can bond with, they usually bond with all the males in the group making a big happy family.

We jump right into Jaz’s story when the Kadothian enter the earth’s atmosphere and no one knows what is going on and then quickly jump to months later when Jaz has already bonded with two males, Mavet and Xentix, whom are now her husbands. Mavet is bonded Tandar, who has been off battling the Hive (the psychos). Tandar has come to the the wife of his bondmate and hope that they are compatible as he only wants to be loved.

Jaz is counselor to the earth women as an ambassador. She helps the women acclimate to a new culture, but as well dealing with two or more husbands. Having two husbands of her own is great, but now she is nervous about meeting a possible candidate for a thirds husband.

There is a side story with Jaz getting in trouble with an official and going before what I would assume would be a court system. The story moves extremely fast and my biggest complaint is that we totally missed out on how Jaz met Mavet and Xentix. The only other thing that gets to me is the free love kind of feel. Not that I am against it, but everything is very open, very different and I would probably be one of the problem females if we were really invaded. I didn’t let that curtail my enjoyment of the story. I am so looking forward to the next full length novel in this series as I don’t feel short stories do it for me.

About Ann Mayburn

With over forty published books, Ann is Queen of the Castle to her husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she’s been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead-though she will deny to her children that it ever happened.

From a young Ann has had a love affair with books would read everything she could get her hands on. As Ann grew older, and her hormones kicked in, she discovered bodice ripping Fabio-esque romance novels. They were great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she’s never looked back.

Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her ‘sexy space’ and has accepted that her Muse has a severe case of ADD.

Ann loves to talk with her fans, as long as they realize she’s weird, and that sarcasm doesn’t translate well via text.

Shari is the Delighted Reader. Married to her Prince Charming and mother to two Princesses and one Prince. When she is not slaving away as Cinderella she loves to get lost in the pages of a good book. Never without a reading device and a few good paperback books, because she never knows when she might get 5 minutes to read!
  • Wow, this seems complicated. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Hoping the next one is more complete.

  • I still don’t enjoy the open relationships in books. I’ve tried to read a few to expand my horizons. Guess I just prefer things to be more settled. Whew, the women all went psycho? Sure they’re not from earth? I’ve met a few I think. LOL

I am not totally sure I like this series because it harps to much on open love. I don’t mind open love, but don’t bang it over my head like I am stupid, which is what I feel happened in the first book. The psycho women aren’t Earthlings. They are the native Kadothian, thus why they are going to planets to get new women. The men are engineered to only have male children so they will always be on the look out for planets with compatible women. Thus why each woman has more than one husband and the husbands usually bond before they find their women.

      • Ah, yeah, repeatedly telling me something in a book gets old for me, too.

Haha, well that race is messed up, but good ol’ Earth has what they need. 😉
