My Little Dancer

JRQ_5682Today I am going to go off a little on topic. My daughter Megan sometimes reviews on Delighted Reader as a YA. School has kind of gotten in the way of that, but she still at times tells me about good YA books even if I don’t read YA.

Since last year, she has been dancing competitively. No, this isn’t an episode of Dance Mom’s which is a disgrace to how parents really act. Her first year she danced in four different groups and did well, but she wanted to do more and explore her own style of dance which is to some harder and darker songs.

Her passion is ballet…pointe to be exact as I curl my toes in agony. Unfortunately pointe ballet doesn’t do real well at competitions. So this year she looked into doing a Contemporary/Lyrical routine. Something that included the complicated turns, rolls, jumps, and leaps she wanted to prove she could do.

She chose four songs for her dance instructor to choose from, but her favorite was “Her Name is Alice” from Shinedown. Luckily it was the one chosen. Since last September, Megan has put in so many hours perfecting this routine. At times wearing a knee brace, crying because of the bruises all over her legs, elbows feeling dislocated. All the pressure she felt was hers alone as I never expect her to do anything but her best.

So below is her song and some pictures of my little dancer!

Shari is the Delighted Reader. Married to her Prince Charming and mother to two Princesses and one Prince. When she is not slaving away as Cinderella she loves to get lost in the pages of a good book. Never without a reading device and a few good paperback books, because she never knows when she might get 5 minutes to read!
  • Jamie Farrell

That’s wonderful!! Way to go, Megan!

Thank you so much Jamie! I could watch her dance for hours it so so beautiful.

  • You have every reason to be proud of her at the very least for her heart to follow through and perform at a high level in a difficult dance. She’s got drive and heart. 😉

Dance has always been her passion…she would dance and dance as a toddler and felt so at home when I put her in dance at 6. Her dance instructor even told her she was one of her best dancers this weekend. We figured out she takes 4 hours of dance a week, 7 hours of dance team practice a week and helps teach 3 classes for 2.5 hours a week. So she dances 13.5 hours a week in some form or another…not including how many times I catch her practicing at home…and maintains a straight A in all advanced AP classes. It is so amazing that she is my kid…she got her dancing from me and her brains from her dad. Our genes made a pretty awesome kid 🙂

      • LOL! I’m sure the dancing and brains dichotomy isn’t quite all one way or the other, but I get you.

That’s great that she’s paying it forward by teaching dance too.
