I love getting excited for another book in the Loving on the Edge series. Just finishing Wanderlust by Roni Loren, I got a sneak peak into this book and immediately started hunting in my ARCs for it. Sure enough I found it and started reading a paperback copy. That’s how much I wanted to read this book, that I wasn’t waiting for the eARC to come through. Oh, and to top it off, I guess I am in HR in this book. Yep, there is a Shari from HR, but you never really see her. Oh, well, I can claim my name is in a book.

Not having much luck in her love life or professional life, Cora Benning has decided to give up on dating and take her love life into the virtual world of gaming with Hayven. Hayven allows Cora to be the woman she wants, while also exploring her sexuality by being a submissive where she meets a man who shows her what it means to be submissive while in the safety of her own home. When Cora is attacked, she doesn’t sit back and take it, she uses her IT skills to hack into the account of the person who attacks her and finds a major problem with the software. Now it’s time to take it to the owners of the company and stop this shit from happening to someone else.

Best friends and business parnters,  Ren Muroya and Hayes Fox, were respected dominants until their world came tumbling down. Wrongfully accused of rape, Hayes is sent to prison. Ren never lost his faith in Hayes and banked everything to prove his innocence. Now free, Hayes has become a hermit, working for the company he owns, but never going in to work. Ren has decided this must end and forces Hayes to engage in the real world instead of Hayven. When Cora shows up at the office, an office they hid from the public view, Ren decides she is the one to help them figure out their security hole.

The three interact as professionals, while also being attracted to each other. Ren’s in love with Hayes as a bi-sexual switch. Hayes is in love with Ren, but will never touch him as a bi-sexual dominant. Hayes won’t touch Ren because he feels he is tainted. There is a lot of back story to their relationship that you need to fully understand all the reasons. Now Ren is attracted to Cora and he thinks she is the key to bringing them all together and Hayes out of his shell of protection.

There is intrigue as we try to figure out who hacked the game and why as well as to who framed Hayes for rape. There is a lot of insecurity in feelings for Cora and Hayes, while Ren is more open to everything. I loved Ren’s openness and willingness to put his heart on the line. Cora is more reserved because she has manish tendencies she feels men aren’t attracted too. Like she hates dresses and loves to game. She also is the daughter of the sheriff, which makes things a little tense. Hayes has good reason to keep away from anything sexual. Protecting himself and his friend is utmost on his mind and he doesn’t take time to relax, ever vigilant.

This story had a lot of heart, heartache, suspense, laughter, sexy times and hope. I am never disappointed when I pick up a Roni Loren story. She delivers on every aspect of a romance story and doesn’t sugarcoat a polygamous relationship. It’s never just focused on two guys loving one woman, she involves them all in loving everyone. There is man on man and woman on man and even man on woman on man …. all kinds of lovin’! And I love that she does this.

Now the suspense….this is what got me as I figured out who it was if not the actual name right off. What I didn’t like was you don’t really figure out how they do it. I really didn’t think the bad person had that much knowledge. But he is evil guys, so I guess he can pay to have it done. It just didn’t feel so realistic in my mind. The one part of the story I didn’t care for much.

Cora, Ren and Hayes have a special place in my heart. They deserve a happily ever after, but you have to read to find out if they do actually get it. Sexy times, meet suspense that has you crying in the end. It’s a home run of a story!

The combinations and elements this author blends to create a deeply engaging story just continue to fascinate and amaze me several books later.  How many erotic romances do you know that offer some profound elements that leave you thinking about the variety of people and relationships are in this world long after you close the cover?  I promise to be less philosophical and more practical now.

This is the ninth full-length novel in the Loving on the Edge series.  The series is written so a reader can pick up the latest release and get along just fine without the previous installments.  I can personally attest to how true this is because I hopped around filling in the backlist to the series hap-hazardly and still enjoyed what I got.

This story introduces three brand new main characters, Cora, Hayes, and Ren and it all begins at a business mixer hosted at Grant Waters’ vineyard.

Cora is a hopeless mess outside the virtual world and socially awkward just doesn’t cover it for her.  She’s a tomboy geek and guys only see her as their bro at best.

Ren is a successful businessman who hides his pain and loneliness behind a flirty, hot demeanor, but he wants it all and all includes his best friend and Cora.

Hayes went to prison for a crime he didn’t commit.  Now acquitted, he is not the same carefree guy.  But he’s willing to take a chance with Ren and Cora.

An unknown enemy has just been biding his time.  Someone goes after Cora and has Hayes and the company he shares with Ren in their sights.

Alright, so this was a fantastic blend of heat, suspense, character growth and romance.  I’ve always enjoyed how the author introduces a new relationship situation with each story.  Oh sure, this is a poly romance and there have been others in the series, but the elements involved are so different to the others.  Ren is bi and needs a poly relationship, he’s dominant, but can seed control for the right man.  A dominant Hayes is emerging as bi and open to a poly relationship if it will satisfy Ren.  He struggles to trust now since he was so burned by a woman and was determined to hold back from anything physical.  But Cora is the fascinating one.  She has these ideas of what makes her a woman and unfortunately had a few idiots crush her early on so she doesn’t see herself well at all and sees the men around her now through a skewed image.  It takes both Ren and Hayes to show her she is lovely and desirable just as she is and that her submission is not weakness.  Watching these three grow as individuals and grow together was the best part for me.

But, on top of that delight is the mystery.  Someone is seriously out to get them.  Hayes has been to prison because he was set up for a crime.  Cora is nearly raped when the Hayven virtual adult game is compromised.  And the attacker isn’t finished.  Cora wanted to be a cyber cop and fight crime in her own way after being raised by her cop mother.  Now is her chance.  This was an exciting and suspenseful side story through most of the book.

As to the kink, yes there are BDSM elements, but this book is mild to moderate.  Bondage, spanking, and some toys.  The relationship is MFM and MMF.

It was nice to have brief encounters with characters from previous books though they mostly drift in and out quickly.

In summary, this was hot and heartwarming.  Loved seeing these three grow and grow together.  For those who enjoy erotic romance with depth, this is the series for you.

My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

About Roni Loren

Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. Though she’ll forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Dallas with her husband and son.

If she’s not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching reality television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to rockstars, er, rock concerts. Yeah, that’s it. She is the National Bestselling Author of The Loving on the Edge series from Berkley Heat.

Shari is the Delighted Reader. Married to her Prince Charming and mother to two Princesses and one Prince. When she is not slaving away as Cinderella she loves to get lost in the pages of a good book. Never without a reading device and a few good paperback books, because she never knows when she might get 5 minutes to read!
  • One of my other online friends just read this and loved it too.

    • Shari Delighted Read

It was a really good story with some intrigue, but mostly people trying to make their way in a world that isn’t accepting.

    • This author is one of the best at the genre in which she writes. She’s well worth the book love she gets. 🙂

  • More doms? I’ll pass only because I’m so tired of these bored rich folks hahaha! Sounds like a gift for fans of erotica though

    • Haha, yes, more doms, but that’s actually not really a strong element in this story. It’s like BDSM-flavored instead of straight up BDSM if that makes sense. 🙂

    • Shari Delighted Read

The BDSM is really light. Ren is a switch which makes it work. While they have money, I wouldn’t say it is one of those billionaire novels. They just own their own company, live modestly, but the kicker is the convicted felon, especially since his conviction was overturned.

  • Doesn’t sound like a series for me but glad you enjoyed!

    • No, not for everyone, Melissa. Haha! Appreciate you dropping by. 🙂

    • Shari Delighted Read

It’s not for everyone, but her writing is captivating. The BDSM is light, but menage is believable and I just liked the characters themselves.

  • Ha, yes, I saw that there was a Shari in this one and meant to mention that to you. Fun to come across your name. 🙂

    • Shari Delighted Read

I very rarely come across my name, so this was fun even if you never get to meet Shari.

  • Wheeee! I’m going to read this soon. I love me some Loren!

    • I think you’ll have a good time with it, Christy! This trio are fantastic.

    • Shari Delighted Read

Run to get it! I mean I finished Wanderlust and there was an excerpt of this book at the end. You should have seen me tearing through my paperback ARCs looking for it. I was hooked!

  • I have never read this author. Apparently that is an epic fail on my part because I love me some heart, heartache, suspense, laughter, and sexy times.

    • Oh, no biggie, Kimberly! I have so many fantastic series that I haven’t gotten around to. These start out alright with book one, but then as the series progresses they go to fantastic. I started in the middle and worked my way forward trying to get the older ones as I went. 🙂 Hope you get the chance some time.
