It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time by Kylie Scott

Ok, this is a long title…It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time. Whoosh! Kylie Scott creates an interesting situation where a 15 year old girl over a course of 3 summers befriends a 30 year old man who works for her father. When she turns 18 she reveals her feelings for him and the shit hits the fan because he doesn’t think of her as anything but a younger sister. Well it’s seven years later and she isn’t a little girl any more. You only get the heroines side of the story which is where it kind of fails because the hero needed to get his say in. But I loved the heroine for her sassy, feisty, say it like it is attitude. It will give you a chuckle on the beach with the words that slip out of her mouth!

Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings.

Sometimes first loves are the truest.

I get the giggles when I see this title. It does sound like a fun one.

The title was very long, but it really sums up part of the book that caused all the problems. I really enjoyed it but I wish the author would write a little from both sides instead of just one.

That is a long title! Too bad the reader doesn’t get a chance to get into the Hero’s head in this one. I do like the sound of it though.

Very long title! I like the book, but the subject matter as a little taboo so we really need to see what Pete was thinking to be ok with it all.

I really enjoyed this one and Adele was such a fun main character. I loved the way she was sassy and spoke her mind while still being vulnerable. But you’re right in that it desperately needed Pete’s POV. Bing in his head and understanding what he was feeling would have helped immensely.

Understanding his side seemed to be critical to whether we could like him or not. To go from a 30 year old seeing a teenager as a kid to a 40 year old falling in love with the woman. He seemed very conflicted, but with everything that happened, I needed his side to be ok with what happened.
