Review
When I met Josie in the story, I at first thought she was extremely judgmental, but being a single mom will do that to a person. Keeping your kids safe is sometimes more important than how you treat someone. Getting pregnant at 16 also doesn’t help. Eleven years later, she’s now moved in closer to her only family member and raising her son. When a man moves in to the rental nearby, she is cautious. He rides a motorcycle, has a scar running down his face and scruffy hair that makes him look like a bad boy MC. But she has it all wrong.
Holt’s out of the hospital after having defended a friend from her ex. His scars are a vanity issue, but he’s trying to get over it. His girlfriend breaks up with him, unable to deal with the scars and healing he is about to undergo. He’s just happy to be out the the hospital and working to go back to work. When a young boy comes up to talk to him about his bike, he doesn’t think twice about talking to him until he gets the look from the mother.
But then Josie loses her job as a bartender and the books she is writing pay well, but not well enough to support her son. She has a chance meeting with Master Z and now has a very good job as a bartender in the Shadowlands, where Holt is a Master.
The two play around at not playing around, so when they come together, it’s pretty damn magical or orgasmic. Little by little Holt works his way into Josie’s life and that of her son. She learns more about her submissive side, while Holt learns he’s ready for a family and commitment. Just some hiccups along the way will keep them from getting a happily ever after right off the bat.
The writing is great, with vivid detail of every move in a scene. It’s almost like Holt has you tied up instead of Josie. Master Z is around to give the Dom look to the submissives, but he has also become the resident matchmaker which delights us as he matches up all the Masters who need to be reigned in by the submissives that will complete them.
Each story in the Shadowlands series pushes you to learn something new in the BDSM world, but also to learn looks, size or preferences should not judge who the person is, but by their actions to the world. Holt may be scarred, but he is far from the bad person Josie saw when she first met him. Mama bear needed take a moment and relax. As we all do at times 🙂

I do like the sounds of this one. I can understand Joise and her time as a single mom so I think I would enjoy this one. And it sounds like the BDSM was done well too.
I love Cherise Sinclair so all of her books are an auto buy. Josie does make some snap judgement because she is a mom and Holt is not a part of her life or her child’s father, so it gets touchy at times.
I’ve read a few of her books and they were good. I think I might enjoy this one as well.
It’s pretty good, but my female warrior in me sometimes can’t be submissive enough for this one, lol.
LOL, I love the way you describe this one. Still dragging my feet for no reason, but will get to this series. Each of your reviews makes me think I’ll love them.
The first few books seem more focused on the BDSM, but as we go along, it becomes the whole story with life thrown in outside of the club. I love that Josie is a YA author and she uses dolls to reenact the scenes with her family. Nothing naughty, just action scenes. It is so cute. The characters in her books want to go one way, but she refuses to give in. It all makes for a good look at the person both in BDSM and outside of it.
Oh I want to see them together now to see how magical it is!
It sounds like both of these characters have had a lot of issues to deal with. I am glad that you enjoyed this one, Shari!
