Reading through the Southern Arcana series, I was a little unhappy with things. Book 1 felt rushed and the characters just young. The second one had history I felt was to important to be left untold. Now the third book…I can’t find anything to change…oh wait one thing, but it didn’t affect how I felt about the story.
What did I like? Well first of all I love Alec! Have loved him in each book. He fights to keep his friends and family safe no matter what while refusing to give in to the the Conclave (read the books to figure out what the Conclave is). In enters Carmen, a young latent wolf, empath doctor working at the super natural clinic.
While I never really learned Carmen’s age I figured her to be in her early to mid-thirties, with Alec coming in at forty-four. Can I say how refreshing it was to read about love being found even in your forties? Especially since Alec is still mourning the loss of his wife, Heidi, from many years ago. Carmen is such a strong woman, but one who has a lot of common sense and a good dose of humor. She is exactly what Alec needs to bring him back to life. Oh, my, yes, Alec is a Dominant Alpha Wolf. He takes control and boils my blood with desire!
The only problem I had…politics!!! I will just leave it at that.
So if you are on the fence about reading this series, jump on over. This book makes the little issues I had with the first too books worth everything!
