Lethal Lies is the second book in New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti's breathtaking romantic suspense series, Blood Brothers, that will be loved by fans of Maya Banks's KGI series, Elle Kennedy, Pamela Clare and Lisa Jackson.

A deadly secret can't stay buried forever . . .

Revenge. It's the only thing that will help Anya Best sleep at night. The serial killer who murdered her sister is on the loose, and Anya will stop at nothing to put him behind bars-even use herself as bait to lure him out of hiding. But she can't do this alone.

Private investigator Heath Jones's job is to bring bastards to justice. This time it's personal. He knew the Copper Killer's latest victim so when her sister asks for his help, he's all in. But when Anya uses the media to taunt the killer, she exposes Heath's identity, putting them both in jeopardy. Now, secrets buried long ago are coming to light and the forces determined to destroy him are watching Heath's every move, waiting to exact their own revenge. And they'll use anything and anyone to get to Heath.

The Delight

Back to a group of men who are more than brothers, they are blood brothers. Genetically enhanced, raised by sadistic sheriff and his brother, and a woman all wrapped in science she has lost her soul. I love this world created with men who aren’t afraid to feel, but also stand up for what is right when raised in a horrific world.

Review

Lethal Lies is a bombshell of action. Go into this knowing this is the second book in the Blood Brothers series, which is also a spin off of the Sin Brothers Series. There is a underlying connection between all the books that makes this a read in order book. While you could read it as a stand alone, note that has a tie in to all the books that may leave you scratching your head. I highly recommend reading it all at the beginning with the Sin Brothers.

Blood Brothers are a group of men who were all fostered in a boys home run by a sadistic sheriff and his brother. Never forget the doctor known by two names who comes and studies them. While most boys would fight to be the supreme badass, these boys banded together becoming more than just brothers.

Lethal Lies picks up where Deadly Lies left us. A serial killer is on the lose kidnapping redheaded women, torturing them and eventually killing them. A lone FBI agent has set herself up as bait and she has been kidnapped. The hope is that she will get him, but as days go by the hope starts to fade. Heath is the one up for this hunt, working with the FBI to track down the killer. Now the baits sister wants revenge, but she is the one the killer is pandering to and it all adds up to an intense story of catching him before he kills again….or gets the heroine.

Anya is heartbroken over her sisters murder. The serial killer is taunting her with each kill as she is his ultimate goal. So what’s a girl to do when she wants the killer to be caught? She fakes an engagement to the one man who doesn’t want the limelight…in front of a news camera. This sets up an adventure of catching a killer, while also ignoring what they feel for each other.

This was an adventure, but also an adventure with plot holes that had me scratching my head. See these guys are genetically enhanced, but at times I wondered if they were. Some of the hide and catch scenes seemed to be to easy for the bad guy to just come get her. Secret hideouts that I didn’t really feel were secret. They are dealing with a serial killer and it all felt off.

The heroine left me off-kilter. While she didn’t know all of Heath’s background story, I felt she often put him in the path of danger with little to no regard she was endangering more than just her own life. She endangered the FBI, the local police and even Heath’s brothers and significant other.

The doctor is becoming more and more unhinged in her effort to get her “boys” back so she can start making the next generation. I don’t think she is going to make it too much longer as the time of reckoning is coming.

The evil is truly evil in this series. The good rides the fine line of gray. The brothers are my favorite element along with the cross books plot. I just didn’t particularly are for the heroine and her need to get revenge at almost any cost. Also, I felt the measures taken to protect and hunt were silly and not what I expected from these brothers. Still I enjoy going back to this world and hope this last brother can find his love…a love already revealed in this book.

About Rebecca Zanetti

New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti has worked as an art curator, Senate aide, lawyer, college professor, and a hearing examiner – only to culminate it all in stories about Alpha males and the women who claim them. She is a member of RWA, has won awards for her works throughout the industry, and has a journalism degree with a poly sci emphasis from Pepperdine University as well as a Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho.

Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides in the wild north with her husband, children, and extended family who inspire her every day-or at the very least give her plenty of characters to write about.

Shari is the Delighted Reader. Married to her Prince Charming and mother to two Princesses and one Prince. When she is not slaving away as Cinderella she loves to get lost in the pages of a good book. Never without a reading device and a few good paperback books, because she never knows when she might get 5 minutes to read!
  • LOL, guess we had the same reaction to certain elements of the story. 🙂

The heroine annoyed me and the book felt off kilter. Nothing felt real or authentic to me. I was all around confused on locations as well. They were hundreds of miles apart but everything seemed to move back and forth quickly. The timeline for everything didn’t jive with me as well. Oh, well. I like the series, just not this book.

  • I think I might have to give this a try.

I love the series overall. The his one isn’t my favorite, but a good read.

  • I am glad that you liked this one as much as you did, Shari. I will have to focus on the brothers when I read this one.

  • Mmmm, I do love a romance series that features a different brother in each book. I feel like I’ve been seeing a lot of Zanetti around here. 😀 Do you recommend starting with book one, Shari? Or they can be read out of order?

Great review! Have a wonderful week. =)
