Shock me up and down when I got an email saying there was a new release from Cherise Sinclair. I went out and bought it without even thinking. I don’t regret it. On the lighter side of BDSM, I really loved these two characters. Throw in a canine rescue, erotic love scenes and seeing all your favorite Masters from the Shadowlands, this book left me wanting more and sad that we are running out of characters to torture.
Rainie has been a favorite character of mine in the few glimpses we have seen of her. BBW, I would say about a size 14 or 16, she is comfortable in her own skin, but it was a long process to get there. Her sunny humor, love of friends and sassy side cracks made me love her even more. While she like a little pain, she is in no way a masochist, preferring bedroom submission and loss of control. This is the type of submissive I understand most and felt like I could really like this person if she were real.
The one thing Rainie needs to overcome is her past. She wants to leave Tampa behind, but finances are hampering her. She’s secretly in lust with the hero, who definitely notices her. And they have a past…that the hero really doesn’t know about. Weird? Well, read it to find out why I say this.
Jake is a full Master at Shadowlands now. When Rainie shows up at his veterinary clinic, his interest grows from just appreciation at Shadowlands to a marked interest to get to know her better. Jake is one of those dominants I wasn’t expecting. He comes from a wealthy family, did some time in the military, got his degree in veterinary and learned to be a dominant. He loves curves on his women, but he also loved a woman without curves. Truly he was about the personality and person they were. Yeah, he is one of those rare men who believes a woman is beautiful for who they are and Rainie turns him inside out…well, not really.
Rainie is part of the trainees group at Shadowlands which is down to three members. One by one the Masters have found their loves and are marrying off, leaving the trainee program without available Doms. The goal is to find the trainees Doms that will love them, but Rainie has the secret that she never plans to settle down. She wants to have fun, picks scenes that are light, and can’t seem to say no without having some artificial story behind it.
After seeing Rainie in his vet clinic, Jake wants to know more about the woman who stopped to save a dog that wasn’t hers. He takes her under his wing and the two start having a good time. He’s the right kind of Dom for her. Sexually dominant, low pain, but all man. But Rainie has secrets she’s not revealing that have Jake questioning how he could fall into the same kind of love that he had with his ex-fiance.
Short and oh, so naughty! These two are a perfect match for each other. While I grew up in a low to middle class family, I can’t understand how this can haunt you so much into the future. Rainie was in and out of foster care, lived on the streets, did somethings people perceive as bad and still she feels ashamed of who she was. People from her past said things that brought her down and she wants to move away from Tampa. This just didn’t fly since I know Tampa is a much bigger town than the one I grew up in and I don’t run into people from my past often. That would be my only complaint, just a troupe I don’t always buy. Now, I can see it happening and Raine wanting to move away.
Jake is form a wealthy family and she has a past with him that he doesn’t know about. This makes her believe they can never be. Again, not totally buying it, but I guess it happens.
Jake is almost too perfect. He loves women for themselves, is a very erotic dominant, served his country and started his own business. Let’s not forget his love of animals. *fans myself* Only one weakness is brought up and that seemed to be just to have something.
Even with all of that, I couldn’t not love this story. The writing is all Cherise Sinclair’s style with Master Z flogging her along the way.
Throw in some past characters getting married or engaged, you get to see the world of Masters of Shadowlands. This group is one I would love to get to know and spend time with. They are a kinky bunch, but also people you know you can count on.
Don’t let this story slip by…it’s part of the 1001 Dark Nights series that I have not gotten into until now. Going back…opening up checkbook and sobbing.
What type of BDSM romances do you like? Sexual submissives, masochists, in-between? What draws you to that type of story?
