The Hunter brothers are a family I am adoring! Getting to know the very different brothers as they find themselves along with the women who come to them for help. A wedding, ex-boyfriend slut shaming and a change on how to look at love brought about a wonderful experience in romance.
Rafe Hunter is a no-strings kind of guy. Watching his father cheat on his mother and his mother retaliating with her own affair and then leaving her two sons, yeah, he doesn’t believe in love. With his brother getting married, he is very happy for him, but he isn’t about to get involved with his new sister-in-law’s younger sister, Carrie. Even if she has a body made to be worshiped and the same beliefs on love, children and life: it is not natural. He is going to avoid her at all costs until a kiss draws him closer than he ever intended.
Carrie needs her sister’s wedding, but not for the reason you would expect. After a bad relationship ends, the ex-boyfriend goes about ruining Carrie’s image. Carrie is a young adult author and when she gives a presentation in front of kids, parents and school officials, it is really unfortunate her PowerPoint has been altered to include nude photos of her. Yeah, the ex is a piece of work and I haven’t told you the half of it. So hiding out on her sister’s vineyard is a great place to wait it all out and what better way to get over an ex, but to have monkey sex with someone who has the same values about love, marriage and kids.
Rafe introduces Carrie to the tent of silence and grabs my heart right off. I know he isn’t interested in my heart, but I swooned over how understanding and non-judgmental he was with her. The two agree to have sex without strings and to keep it from common knowledge. Meeting every night clandestinely, flirting over text messages and learning to really enjoy each other’s company. The two keep things light for the most part, but at times you can see them discuss deeper things no one else knows.
There does come a time that Rafe realizes this is going into territory he isn’t comfortable with and tries to pull back. This hurts Carrie as she starts to realize she also going into territory she isn’t sure Rafe is ready for either. I loved the easy way these two fell into a rhythm and while the outside world kept turning, the two kept rolling with the punches. Carrie took back her power over her life while dealing with an overly critical mom and a sister living in wedded bliss. Rafe learns more of what he wants in life while also showing us more of the brother in the next book.
I thoroughly loved this story and the amazing monkey sex that rocked my world. Two people broken by their past or present, running from what they are most scared of. It was a story that hooked me and now I have to go grab the next book in the series.
