Lazaro Archer finally gets his story after having been dealt a horrible blow when his Dark Haven, Breedmate and family are massacred twenty years ago. Dedicating his life to the Order, he vows to never fall in love again, nor let anyone get close to him. A Gen One, Lazaro is one of the most powerful of the Breed.

Brokering a peace treaty secretly, he is blindsided with when a Breedmate accompanies her father to the meeting. When the covert mission goes terribly wrong, Lazaro is tasked with protecting the one lone survivor, Melena Walsh. The last time he saw Melena, life had been good and she had been a child. No longer a child, she evokes emotions and desires he no longer wishes to feel. Spurning Melena is hard, but necessary to his emotional survival.

Melena Walsh remembers the time Lazaro saved her as a child. The man he has become now is so different. Desire draws her to Lazaro. She doesn’t want him to forget his family, but to forgive himself for what happened and to move forward. But there are threats close to home that can destroy her before Lazaro can get his head out of his ass.

Lazaro has been a minor character, but a steady one, throughout the last few books of this series. I felt so bad for him when he lost his entire family except for a grandson. He devotes himself to the Order, but really doesn’t have a life. Melena awakens his desires, his need to protect and love. It was a powerfully short story that I recommend to anyone who loves the Midnight Breed series.

  • I love this series and I feel the same way about him. I need to read Lazaro getting his HEA.

    • Shari Delighted Read

It’s a really short and sweet novella to give him a HEA. He needs it after what happens to his Dark Haven.

  • Oh man I love this series and now I’m really looking forward to reading this one. I’m a little behind in my reading.

    • Shari Delighted Read

I am behind too! I finally caught up on my NetGalley books so I am chipping away at stories I really want to read to catch up.

  • It’s a series I need to read, once again, I’ve got the prequel, once again – only lack the time, so far, lol !

    • Shari Delighted Read

I totally understand lacking time. It has been a wonderful, but hit or miss series for me. Some of them are my all time favorites, and some I could have left behind.

  • Only otherworldly creatures can make a grandpa-young woman pairing sexy lol. I love this 1001 nights series. Short, sexy, raunchy, and dirty quality reads

I love these 1001 night series too! If it weren’t paranormal, I think I would have skipped it for the age factor if it wasn’t for the fact that they never really grow old and Breedmates live as long as their mates.

  • OH I really need to try this one out, especially with this author at the helm. I love those winning short stories.

Lara Adrian can really write a good series!

  • It’s nice to see a secondary character finally get their happy and Lazaro sounds interesting

    • Shari Delighted Read

Yep, I love when secondary characters you grow to love get their HEA especially when their lives were torn apart.

  • I started this series when I was still into vamp reads way back when but haven’t picked it back up yet and I still have a couple of books on my shelf that need to be read. Im dipping my toes back into PNR so I’m going to have to pick this back up again. Good that this one is a quick short read, it sounds really good too.

It’s a good series, but it did tend to lag and go off course towards the end of the first generation. She did a reboot about a year ago and went 20 years in the future. This helped refresh the series again. It’s a good one to re-pick back up.

Like Sharonda, I used to read this author’s books all the time, until I got totally overloaded on vampire books and had to leave them on the pile for a while. This reminds me of how much I enjoyed her writing, so I’ll have to make sure I have this one. Hugs…

The series starts off strong and then about halfway starts to fizzle. I was about to give up on it when she did a reboot on the series and went 20 years into the future. So far it has been pretty good and this one goes in the reboot part. Hopefully the series can continue to intrigue me and not get bogged down like it did for a while.
