Welcome to The Book Report where we run down everything that happened in the month and update you on challenges, giveaways, reviews and more!

Shari’s Update

June didn’t pick up for me, unfortunately. My Mom sold her house and closed at the beginning of the month. It became crunch time to find her a new house as she has to be out of hers by July 30. To say this has been stressful is an understatement. Lots of time crying (her not me), packing, making offers, then backing out of those offers. To say she was being extremely picky was mild. Three offers ended over mold or roofing issues. 5 or so offers were not accepted. And this week we finally found a home we hope to close on in a week or so. July isn’t looking hopeful at this moment because the actual move will take place. It won’t go smoothly even though I hope it will.

So I didn’t get around to reading much. I don’t have much to report actually. I did got to RAGT in Cincinnati. It was the highlight of my month! Read all about it.

Sophia Rose’s Update

Summer is here!  Well sort of.  It’s been so busy in that way of not noticing the dates on the callendar.  No huge things just a lot of little nothings as I take care of my garden, get a few cleaning/organizing projects done, and prepare to be away for a while.

Nearly time for my annual trek to the wilderness and then onward to time with the folks in Utah.  This is also the time when I unplug a bit and get recharged for the last part of the year.  What I’m saying is that I will be somewhat scarce through mid-July to mid-August.  But like MacArthur, I shall return.

I hope to spend time in the writer cave so I’m ready for an early fall deadline, but also appreciate some great books from the library and my overcrowded shelves.

Speaking of books…  My June reading total is: 39

Reading Breakdown:  11 Net Galley (97%), 7 audio, 20 author/publisher requests, 2 DNFs, 14 TBR pile, 10 new to me authors, 11 new to me series, 1 end of series

It’s mid-year and I’ve enjoyed working toward the challenges and doing the TBR pile vote to push me toward some great books and at least get the ‘meh’ books off the shelves.  How are you feeling about your reading for the year?  Still a lot to conquer or are you just about on track?  Try anything new in your reading this year so far?  And, as this was audiobook month, were you able to listen to any good books/podcasts, etc?  Do tell!

June 2017 Reviews

Did you miss a review? No fear! Here’s what we wrote about in the month of June.

The following two tabs change content below.
Shari is the Delighted Reader. Married to her Prince Charming and mother to two Princesses and one Prince. When she is not slaving away as Cinderella she loves to get lost in the pages of a good book. Never without a reading device and a few good paperback books, because she never knows when she might get 5 minutes to read!

  • RO

Hey Shari, you are not alone, because we finished the exact total of books this month. (lol) A friend of mine is moving here to NC from Rhode Island to be closer, so I can totally feel your pain with the move. All I can say is I’m keeping you in prayer, and thank goodness your mom has you around to help. She knows I want her to move here, but I sure wish she’d have her hubby move to another country (lol), but that’s another story. Wow Sophia, you did your thing this month, girl! Kudos to you. I totally get that you’ll be unplugging soon, and you’ll be missed. Count me out on the wilderness thing though. That’s way too many opportunities to meet bugs. lol Hugs to you both!

    • Ah, thanks, Ro. I know the nature experience isn’t everyone’s thing. I don’t do total raw nature (RV and bathrooms are a must). 🙂 But the getting away is a good thing.
Good luck with helping your friend move.

Thanks RO! It has been fustrating to not be able to do much that you like. I want to help her and I didn’t go into everything going on. She closes on her new house Monday and then starts the move, so I am betting July might be as just as bad for me. I am going to moved down my goal for 2017. I just don’t know if I can get anywhere near what I wanted to read.

  • I feel like I’ve been slowing down with my reading lately. I was so ahead with reading and blogging but the weather has been pulling my outside more and more. lol! I’m on track/ahead with 2 of my challenges but falling a little behind on my Backlist challenge. I’m going to try to change that in the next couple months.

    • Yes, the outdoors calls me, too, and makes sitting and reading not always the first thing I want to do. Good luck on your Backlist challenge, Julie. 🙂

I haven’t had much time to read or blog with my mom’s move. She closes on her new house Monday and then starts a month long move that will do me in! I am going to try to get as much work done today for July so hopefully I will get ahead.

  • Oh Shari, I can understand the stress you are going through. I hope everything works out.

Sophia, great job on your challenges. Hope you have a good vacation and get refreshed for the fall.

I’ve had less reading time since school is out and my 5 year old is home. We have been running around doing swim classes, soccer classes, a LEGO camp, and seeing a few movies in the theater and playing outdoors when the weather is nice and in CA it usually is sunny every day. Only a few to HOT days. It’s been a fun summer so far and busy. ^_^

Thank you Angela! This month has been bittersweet along with a side of stress. I just want it all over with, but that never happens.

  • Karen

Now that I have my physical ARC pile under control, I’m going to venture into audio books.

I’m taking next week off from blogging to recharge a bit as well.

I’m trying to stay ahead int he blogging burnout game lol

Hope everything works out with the house Shari. That’s SUPER stressful!

    For What It’s Worth

    • Shari Delighted Read

I am so burned out on blogging. I have had thoughts about closing down the blog a few times as I feel so overwhelmed. But I keep plugging along trying to make it work, but somedays I just can’t get to posting anything. Hopefully we can get her moved in this month and I can get back to a slower pace.

  • Moving is so stressful. I don’t want to ever do it again. I feel your pain, Shari.

Sophia, you had another amazing month. It is impressive how many challenges you have already been able to complete.

I hope you both have a great July!

    • Shari Delighted Read

She has lived there for about 20 years. It was the dream home her and her husband built. He passed away 3 years ago this month and she isn’t ready to let it go, but has to. This will probably be the her last home. That saddens me as well. So my July will be just as stressful as my June.

  • Ergs. Good luck with the move, Shari! Hope it goes smoother than expected.

Sophia have a blast on your trip! I can’t believe it’s that time already!

    • Shari Delighted Read

Thanks Anna! She closes on her new house Wednesday (they moved it from Monday). Will probably be setting things up for her most of next week. So I am trying to get my reading on now.

  • Glad the home sold Sherri. And Sophia ..holy books. I read 23 and was excited.

    • Shari Delighted Read

Glad her home sold, but it is very bittersweet as I help her pack up. I haven’t seen her new house yet, but she closes on Wednesday, so I will probably be there on Thursday to help my husband start wiring the house up.

  • Greg Hill

Moving is tough- best of luck to you with the new place! And have a great trip Sophia! You read a ton of books- wow. 🙂

Hope you both have a fabulous July!

  • Shari — I hope that the move goes well. I remember buying my house. I don’t envy anyone in that process.

Sophia — I can’t get over the number of books you’ve tackled. I hope you have a great trip. I completely get the need for unplugging. I always go to Canada to unplug each year. Normally, I go around this time of the year, but DH has jury duty, so we had to stay. We are going for Labor Day instead.

  • @Shari that sounds like a hectic month. I hope your mom finds a new house soon. That’s nice you still got to read a few books.

@Sophia wow you got a lot read this month. My 8 books i read seem very few compares to your 39. You seem to be doing well with your challenges and even completed some already. I already completed my new release challenge, so now I just go on and see how far I get. I hope you enjoy your trek to the wilderness.
