Welcome to The Book Report where we run down everything that happened in the month and update you on challenges, giveaways, reviews and more!
October is one of my favorite months, but I have to say this wasn’t the month for me, especially on the reading front. I did manage to get a lot of posts ready for 2019, brainstormed some new adventures and even made a quick trip to Disney World with my kids! Happy Halloween from Anna, Elsa and Spiderman in front of the Magic Kingdom.
My Day Job
I went back to my old ways, but mostly because my day job picked up and guess what? I worked and didn’t get paid. Yep, this has me re-evaluating if I want to continue to be a travel agent.
It’s that time of year when you come up with business plans and I have never done that. As I put my heart into the plan, it was torn to pieces by someone who thought I was too conservative on my goals. Goals I feel they want so they can get more prestige for their company. Which is right for them to do and to push me, but I faced hard realities when I wrote it. I faced that I don’t have the sales this year. So I tripled my amount of sales I want to get next year and if I am brutally honest it was more than that if you take out the sales I made to myself that I can’t continue to do in 2019. I considered my geographical area and we are mostly blue collar worker or farmers. I don’t live in an area like New York with tons of rich people, or any other town like that. So, yeah, I have set a deadline for me to double my sales by or it’s me going back to being a stay at home mom who blogs.
UPDATE: I did have a meeting with my boss right after I wrote this and she thought I was over pushing the amount that I increased it to, so I put it back. She said the numbers I put would be better for a third or fourth year in the business. Oh, well, I guess the first person (her husband) just figured I needed to be pushed harder.
I also was participating in Blog Ahead. I love this event, but it does take time to create 30+ post. Time away from reading. Throw in a research trip for the job above and I sit here these last few days of October struggling to get my 30+ posts. I am currently at 25 posts and I hope to get 5-6 more done before the day is over. I have prepped a ton of them the other day, so I am going to push to finish them up and hit my goal!
Reading…well I pre-ordered the Hell out of Amazon, and have only read one of those books. Books I am dying to read, but just haven’t had time. I see November being a month for me to step back and try to read more. I love writing reviews and the business I run, but I really miss reading!
Oh, and I spent last night making 7 batches of churros that I worried would go soggy by morning to help my daughter with her Spanish class assignment. Sure enough, they weren’t as crisp on the outside and soft inside as they were last night. I hope the teacher sees the effort she and I both put into this. In fact, I got a pretty bad grease burn on my hand to prove it wasn’t that easy. I got smart finally after I got a second burn on my arm for it. Needless to say, I looked like a wreck with my left hand all bandaged up with moist towels to help take the burn feel off. My older daughter thinks I have second degree burns, so keeping it dry and wrapped up is the name of the game today. Luckily I can still type even though I have to rest my wrist on the table.
Is it time for turkey and pie?
Who’s ready for pumpkin pie? **Raises hands** I am not a fan of all the pumpkin things, but pumpkin pie is one of my favorites. I bought the ingredients yesterday and heavy whipping cream to make my own whipped cream. I am an over achiever at times as most times I just buy whipped cream. Oh, well, I really wanted to have something fresh and good. Just letting my hand heal and I will be in the kitchen making my fall favorites! Maybe I will dig up some recipes to share, although most are from what I have found rather than family hand me downs.

Sophia Rose’s Update
I reveled so much in the change of the season even if, yes, our leaves still are not turning. Talk about late color. As long as I get it, I will not mind. October brought the release of Rational Creatures anthology in which I have a short story entry, the base of our shed in place for us to get the rest of it up this weekend (hopefully), the final harvest from the garden before it was plowed under, a trip to the orchard, donuts and cider, and our first fire in the fireplace.
My Kindle Unlimited trial will end just before this post goes up. I have decided to cancel, but keep the option open for later in the new year when I have more time to spare for books not on my shelf, review commitments and real life. I’m going to look in to subscribing and cancelling after a few months at a time. If anyone else has done it that way, let me know how it worked out for you.
I had a good time participating in Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer’s Fraterfest Readathon and the mini games and challenges from participating hostesses. My goal was to read five (not so) scary books and I hit that goal easily.
I was having a blast so I kept the themed readathon reads rolling by a spur of the moment entry into Michele and Berls at Because Readings’ Spooky Season Readathon. I didn’t give much thought to this so my early goal was three books. I’ve hit four and I still have time for more.
That brings me to my upcoming book related events in November. As usual, I’ll be participating in National Novel Writing Month’s (NANOWRIMO) writing challenge which will mean I slip into writer cave and less on social media and blogs.
I will also be doing Michelle and Berls’ at Because Readings’ Read a Series in a Month challenge. I picked the last three books in Ani Gonzalez’s Banshee Creek series. Bet I made you bug-eye over the ‘series’ part. LOL, but no, I’m not nuts and committed to three and they are not long.

Aaannndd, I’m doing the annual HoHoHo Readathon hosted by Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer. I am aiming for ten holiday or winter setting books. Rather ambitious to be sure, but this readathon is a week and a half.
