The Great Pick Up Line – Quote Me On This! Blogger Edition

The Great Pick Up Line

Whether it makes you giggle snort and make a fool of yourself at the dentist office, sob big ugly tears so your significant other or cat shakes their head and nudges the tissue box at you, or you reach for the cold one at your elbow to quench the fire that particular passage in the book flamed to life in you, books ae full of amazing lines that stick with us past the closing of the page or the click of the audio device.

Delighted Reader is welcoming some of our reviewer and blogger friends whom we’ve made over the years to drop in and share with you one of their favorite or more notable book quotes for our The Great Pick Up Line Event.  These are some great book loving folks and, if you don’t already visit their blog homes, do stop in through the links and say hey!

OJ @ OJ He Say

OJ said, “This is a passage in a phenomenal book that brought me to unspeakable tears. Downright ugly crying, but I can’t ever forget it.”  (We’ve all been blessed by those rare books and their writers who can reach inside and grab us hard, right?)

I returned his grin. “Nah. I thought so our first night together, over forty years ago, and I still think so now. You’re the most handsome man I’ve ever laid eyes on.” After taking his hand in mine, I brought it to my lips and kissed the palm. “I’ve been so incredibly lucky. I couldn’t have asked for more.”

“Wes?” he questioned and I saw the fear in his eyes—the understanding.

I nodded, momentarily unable to speak the words we both knew five months ago would have to be spoken at some point. I swallowed, tried to catch a breath, and said, “It’s tonight, babe.”

OJ shared the link for his review of his book quote choice and it sounds like a deeply moving book:

Debbie @ The Reading Frenzy

Debbie Said, “Hi I’m Debbie Haupt from The Reading Frenzy and I’d like to thank Shari and Sophia Rose for inviting me to their February blog event.  (So glad you could accept our invitation and share with our readers, Debbie).

I’d like to share with you a quote from my all time favorite novel, a literary masterpiece as far as I’m concerned Overseas by Beatriz Williams. It’s an alternate history/time travel epic love story that transcends time and space, set in the dual time periods of 1916 Amiens France and Present Day 2007.

Let me set up the scene from Chapter 7; the stars are the present day Kate and Julian and Julian has been trying to ignore his desire for Kate but fate or the universe keeps interfering so he’s giving in.”

The Reading Frenzy

“Oh Kate,” he said. “When you look at me like that… those eyes of yours…” His eyelids lowered. “I’ve tried so very hard the last few months to stay away from you. To ignore this… this hold you have on me. You can’t imagine what a challenge it’s been. I’ve been reduced to following you like a lapdog as you run through the park.”

Carole @ Carole’s Random Life in Books

Carole said, “I was able to find a few romantic quotes that I love…” (but sadly, I’m only going to use one and it was tough to pick from the three she found- all good)

Carole’s Random Life in Books

“I love you.”

He squeezed me to him, kissed my forehead, and breathed in the scent of my hair.  The relief was so plain in the way he touched me.

“It’s okay,” I told him.

“I know.” His voice was quiet.  “I will always be there.  I will walk across the whole planet if I have to.”

I closed my eyes and whispered, “I’ll meet you halfway.”

I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.

  • I so love Kate Daniels! Always a great choice! I didn’t know about the others

    • The Kate Daniels series is especially poignant now that we have the last book coming this year.

Oh yay! Glad we could introduce you to some new authors, Melliane! 🙂

  • Great quotes! I love Kate Daniel’s quotes, makes me anxious for the next book!

    • I loved each one and it was neat getting a variety.

Ah me, yes, I’m anxious about the last Kate Daniels, too, Tanya. 🙂

  • <3333 Kate Daniels quotes!

    • For sure! She’s has such wide appeal. 🙂

  • I haven’t read any of those books and the quotes were so good from them.

    • I look forward to trying both OJ and Debbie’s favorite authors soon. That is what is so neat about reading the quotes. I have longer list of books that intrigue me. 🙂

  • Of course I love Andrews, but both Debbie and OJ have piqued my curiosity as well!

    • Same here! I’ve read OJ’s review on Toncelet’s book and its an intense read, but I think I’d get into it. I’ve heard good stuff about Debbie’s fav, too. 🙂

  • Bookworm Brandee

Wow. Thanks to all of you for sharing some of your favorite quotes. I’m familiar with Andrews’ books but I now have a few new ones to check out! 🙂

    • I am right there with you, Brandee. I love how so many of these quotes are leading me to books that weren’t even on my radar. 🙂

  • Of course I am partial to Curran and Kate – but that first quote? I am going to have to check into that book. I need to know the context.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • It’s a pretty tough fought and moving story. Click through the review link to see what OJ said about it. I definitely want to read it though I suspect I’ll be bawling my head off just like OJ.

  • Karen

Ahhhh Curran!!! I love their love lol

I need to investigate that first book. That quote has me soooo curious.

Karen @ For What It’s Worth

    • Oh yes, same here, Karen! OJ does a great review for it so check out his link there. 🙂

Le sigh… Curran and Kate. Can’t believe we’re at the last book already.

  • I guess I have some new books to check out. Thanks for this post.

    • LOL we sure do, Nadene! You’re welcome!

  • Awwww, I like that last one! A great selection by Carole! All of these were good. ;D Lovely post, Sophia!

    Have a wonderful day. =)

Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!

    • Kate and Curran quotes are great.

Glad you enjoyed all the quotes, Alyssa. Have a great one, too! 🙂

  • Those were some really good quotes. The Wes Denial one sounds really sad but good and the Andrews one was swoonworthy. Following around like a lapdog was good as well!

    • I think your guess is right about Wes’ Denial being a deeply emotional read in that spot.

Oh yes, for an UF series there are some very swoony quotes for this pair.

I’ve heard good stuff about Williams’ writing so I might try this book to be my first one by her.

  • Nice quotes. Feels good.

    • They sure do give one the feels. Thanks for stopping, Velvet!
