Sophia's To Read or Not

Each month, I will post up a pair (or more) of books.  I would like you to vote on a choice.  Yes!  You will have the job of telling me what to read from my pile each month.  I welcome your vote no matter what reason you choose (frivolous, serious or otherwise) that particular book and do share your reason in the comments just because I’m nosy.  I will of course share my thoughts on the book itself in my review post.

My theme is New to Me Authors this month so your guess is as good as mine, right?  Kidding, I’ve actually heard good stuff about these.

Candidate #1

Written in Red by Anne Bishop
#1 The Others
Urban Fantasy

Blurb:

As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

Candidate #2

Sterling by Dannika Dark
#1 Mageri
Urban Fantasy

Blurb:

Zoë Merrick lived an ordinary life until the night she was brutally attacked. She narrowly escapes death, rescued by Adam Razor, an ex-soldier who offers her friendship and a place to stay. But something else is different. Zoë is unable to control an unexplainable energy coursing through her body.

Justus De Gradi is a man who can teach her that control. She meets him by chance – a man who’s handsome, arrogant, and not entirely human. He reveals that she’s a Mage – an immortal made of light, not magic. Zoë must now make a choice: Rebuild her life in the human world with the man who saved her, or live with Justus and learn how to use her extraordinary gifts. Justus has sworn an oath to protect her life, but can he guard her from the one man who has a right to claim it?

Zoë learns the price of freedom…and the value of loyalty.

Which book should Sophia read?

The following two tabs change content below.
Shari is the Delighted Reader. Married to her Prince Charming and mother to two Princesses and one Prince. When she is not slaving away as Cinderella she loves to get lost in the pages of a good book. Never without a reading device and a few good paperback books, because she never knows when she might get 5 minutes to read!

Readers, if you don’t have a Word Press account and the voter asks you to sign in, you are welcome to do a write-in vote here in the comments. 🙂

Does the voter thing need a WP account? I set it up to anonymous so I will have to look into it if it does.

I highly recommend Written in Red. But be prepared to want to immediately read everything else in the series as fast as you can get your hands on it. Anne – Books of My Heart

LOL, good advice. I should be alright then because I have the first two and book four on the Kindle. Not sure why I don’t have book three…

Voting in the comments since I don’t have a wordpress account. Definitely Written In Red. This series is just fantastic.

I’ve heard so much good stuff about the series. I need to get to it sooner rather than later. Thanks, Jen!

I admit that Written in Red is a fantastic book, but Sterling is the first book of my favorite series. You have to get to book two but when you do I think you will love it. My favorite book boyfriend of them all!

Nice to know that I need to be ready to dive into book two if I get started. I have the boxed set of #1-3 so I can plow forward if I get in a binging mood. 🙂

I’m happy to chime in Sophia Rose. I have heard fantastic stuff about both authors but I have a Dannika Dark on my shelf because of how much coffee Kim loves her so I want to see what you think too! xo

I voted for Written in red as I heard so many good things about that series and I have a copy of that one myself as well, it’s still waiting on my shelf, waiting to be read.

LOL! Glad I’m not the only one who has to dust it off and get started on it. 🙂

Yeah, I felt ready to try to fit in a new series this year since I got caught up with, finished off, or abandoned a few others. Both are finished series with about a half dozen so I felt they were good choices.
