Sophia's To Read or Not

Each month, I will post up a pair (or more) of books.  I would like you to vote on a choice.  Yes!  You will have the job of telling me what to read from my pile each month.  I welcome your vote no matter what reason you choose (frivolous, serious or otherwise) that particular book and do share your reason in the comments just because I’m nosy.  I will of course share my thoughts on the book itself in my review post.

Holiday Theme Take Two!  I figured I was on a row after Kimberly’s #hohohorat so I’d keep grabbing holiday books off the shelf.

Here are your choices:

Candidate #1

The Christmas Catch by Ginny Baird
#1 Holiday Brides
Contemporary Romance

Blurb:

Since the death of her military husband two years ago, single mom Christine White has struggled to get by. By throwing herself into her work as a Chicago copywriter, she’s managed to keep food on the table but has gradually lost sight of what really matters, like building a bond with her four-year-old son. When Christine’s best friend insists she spend Christmas in Vermont so she can get her life in order, Christine initially resists. Little does she know she’s in for a memorable holiday that will reignite her faith and reawaken her heart.

Bachelor professor John Steadman has given up on finding the right one. Spending time with his friends while keeping up with his job seems satisfying enough. Then one day close to Christmas, a beautiful woman from Chicago nearly runs him off the road during a snowstorm. What’s more, she’s got a kid in her car. It’s only natural that John and his trusty golden retriever want to help drag them out of a ditch and steer them toward their destination. What John doesn’t expect is that soon he’ll be hoping Christine and her son will be staying in Vermont – for more than just a little while.

Candidate #2

Christmas Light by Jolyse Barnett
#2 Christmas in New York
Contemporary Romance

Blurb:

Adirondack girl-in-transition Jade Engel comes home to recharge after ending a career she never truly wanted, but soon realizes she’s in danger of also being swept off her feet by the boy-next-door, her former best friend, Ben Stephens. If only he’d stop kissing her every time she falls into his arms.

Everything local celebrity Ben Stephens ever wanted is in Starling. Then Jade comes home after an eternity away and sends his simple world into a tailspin. He’s determined to pursue her—the one girl who got away. But when their friends-with-benefits arrangement blows up in their faces, will they have the courage to put their pasts to rest in order to forge a future together?

I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.

The poll doesn’t seem to show up for me, but I would vote for Christmas Lights. I like the cover for that. It looks cozy and christmassy. The blurb sounds pretty good too. I hope you’ll enjoy whichever book wins!

They do both look good so I’m glad to have everyone pick one for me. 🙂 Thanks, Carole!

I haven’t heard of either of these, but I am sure both would be great. Nothing better than a holiday romance.

Especially around now. 🙂

The Christmas Catch. Just like the storyline. No place to actually vote came up for me.

Both sound great, but I love the boy next-door best friend to lovers thing going on in Christmas Light.

Thanks for the vote, Mary! LOL, our voter app is misbehaving. 🙂

You are up to your eyeballs in school finals so I completely understand. Glad you could drop by today, Mary.

People always choose the one I didn’t vote for but I’ll say these two seem similar with holiday contemporary romance. The Christmas Catch though has a child involved which I like if it’s done well. Enjoy whatever you choose. Anne Books of My Heart

I used to be able to vote for two or three blogs who did something similar and my picks were usually the low vote get-er, too. 🙂
These are so similar and I’m glad I just need to read what is picked and not choose. 🙂

We-ll… I ended up reading about two chapters and got fed up with the heroine. It ended up being a DNF for me. But, maybe you’ll fair better. Or not. LOL
