Sophia's To Read or Not

Each month, I will post up a pair (or more) of books.  I would like you to vote on a choice.  Yes!  You will have the job of telling me what to read from my pile each month.  I welcome your vote no matter what reason you choose (frivolous, serious or otherwise) that particular book and do share your reason in the comments just because I’m nosy.  I will of course share my thoughts on the book itself in my review post.

In preparation for our next I Dare You event, I present two fall sports’ classics-themed romances.

Candidate #1

The Game Plan by Colleen CallighanThe Game Plan by Kristen Callihan
#3 Game On
Contemporary Romance

Blurb:

A beard-related dare and one hot-as-hell kiss changes everything.

NFL center Ethan Dexter’s focus has always been on playing football and little else. Except when it comes to one particular woman. The lovely Fiona Mackenzie might not care about his fame, but she’s also never looked at him as anything more than one of her brother-in-law’s best friend. That ends now.

Fi doesn’t know what to make of Dex. The bearded, tattooed, mountain of man-muscle looks more like a biker than a football player. Rumor has it he’s a virgin, but she finds that hard to believe. Because from the moment he decides to turn his quiet intensity on her she’s left weak at the knees and aching to see his famous control fully unleashed.

Dex is looking for a forever girl, but they live vastly different lives in separate cities. Fi ought to guard her heart and walk away. But Dex has upped his game and is using all his considerable charm to convince Fi he’s her forever man.

Candidate #2

Good Boy by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

Good Boy by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy
#1 WAGs
Contemporary Romance

Blurb:

Hosting her brother’s wedding for an MVP guest list is the challenge of Jess Canning’s life. Already the family screw-up, she can’t afford to fail. And nobody – absolutely nobody! – can learn of the colossal mistake she made with the best man during a weak moment last spring. It was wrong, and there will not be a repeat. Absolutely not. Even if he is the sexiest thing on two legs.

Blake Riley sees the wedding as fate’s gift to him. Jess is the maid of honor, and he’s the best man? Let the games begin. So what if he’s facing a little (fine, a lot) of resistance? He just needs to convince the stubborn blonde that he’s really a good boy with a bad rap. Luckily, every professional hockey player knows that you’ve got to make an effort if you want to score.

But Jess has more pressing issues to deal with than sexy-times with a giant man-child. Such as: Will the ceremony start on time, even though someone got grandma drunk? Does glitter ever belong at a wedding? And is it wrong to murder the best man?

Caution: May cause accidental aspiration of tea or coffee. Do not read in a public place where loud laughter is inappropriate. Contains hot but hilarious hockey players, puppy cuddling and a snarky pair of underwear.

Which book should Sophia read?
The following two tabs change content below.
I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.

Really hard decision because these both sound really good for different reasons, but as a football fan, I went with The Game Plan. Sorry, but for some reason I couldn’t vote. Happy Friyay!

Your favorite sport is a good way to go.

Bummer that the voter isn’t working for you, but thanks for dropping your vote in the comments, Ro. 🙂

UPDATE: I tried to leave a vote. It’s being sensitive. I had to tap on it a few times to get it to work.

Well, it’s not winning, but I voted for Good Boy. LOL I love the two authors, and I’ve heard good things about this one.

I love their books in the Him series and separate lists, too. 🙂

I voted for Good Boy as I think it sounds interesting. I’ve seen it around a few times and I like that cover with the dog on it.

It is a cutie cover and I’ve heard good things about it.

Well since Sarina Bowen is one of my favorites I would definitely go with anything she writes. I have this one in my tbr. I’m still making my way through all of her work. Whichever it is, I hope you make it back to Good Boy eventually. Enjoy!

I do think I’ll get to it eventually whether it wins or not. I enjoyed the early books and his character in the Him duology.

Good Boy is my vote. That sounds like a fun one.

It does look adorable. 🙂

Did you read Him/Us books? They are in the same world as WAGs and that’s where you meet the couple in Good Boy. Anyhow, I voted Good Boy because I really enjoyed it! Hope you do too.

I did read Him and adored it- still need to finish Us- so I’m vaguely familiar with who the characters are. I’m glad to see that you loved it, Jen.

I say read both, because both are really good. These are two of my go-to romance writers, and they never disappoint me.

They do both look good, Sam. I can only fit one in right now, but you bet I’ll try to read the other one. 🙂

I like the sound of The Game Plan better, but I think either book would be a win. Jess (in Good Boy) being labeled a screw-up makes me think I might get frustrated with her, but who knows.

Sophia Rose

Yeah, I know what you mean. She is in the earlier set of books when her brother gets his romance, but I felt I only got a peek at her character and what there was, I did like.

This was a tough vote because they both sounded good to me. Whew!

It is not letting me vote…but my vote goes to Good Boy! I plan to listen to that book very soon and am quite excited about it since the main character was in another book that I loved. I hope you enjoy whichever book you end up reading!

Sorry about that. We will count your vote, no worries.

Oh yes, I saw your reviews for the earlier series and got me excited to finish Us. 🙂
