Howdy, Delighted Readers!
In anticipation for the release of the third of Chanel Cleeton’s Wild Aces series book, On Broken Wings (woohoo, Easy), Penguin-Random House is hosting a Re-Read Tour. Bloggers could sign up to re-read one of the first two books and customize a fun post for their leg of the tour. I didn’t have a preference (because seriously, hot fighter pilots and I liked them both) and asked them to surprise me for my re-read.
And so, my chosen re-read was Into the Blue. Rah Rah for Thor!
I’m not going to offer a review on my second read experience, but here is a dazzling dual review that Shari and I did back in July for Into the Blue that you can read if you want our reader thoughts: http://delightedreader.com/into-the-blue-by-chanel-cleeton-review/
Instead, I will target in on a few quotes to give you a taste. This was a second chance romance and when the story opened it seemed Eric’s chances would crash and burn with Becca.
Here’s the Second Chance Meet-Cute from both their perspectives:
BECCA: I swiveled in my chair, my world stopped, and my wine glass hit the ground. Eric- heartcrushing, would-rather-slide-into-a jet-than-me, one-that-got-away Eric- stood in front of me, his arm draped around the shoulders of a stunning blonde.
ERIC: No f-ing way. I blinked, convinced I’d somehow hallucinated her, that Becca Madison couldn’t possibly be here, standing a few feet from me, Bandit’s arm brushing her side. The sound of breaking glass shattered the haze, everyone around us scrambling to pick up the dropped wine glass. We didn’t move; it was like time stood still for the two of us while the world went on.
The advice of friends:
ERIC: He flashed me a cocky grin. “I’m just saying that if you don’t get in there, someone else will.” The idea had occurred to me approximately one million times in the last decade… “You saw how she acted. She hates me.” “Come on. You said it yourself- it’s been a decade. She doesn’t know you. Are you the same guy you were ten years ago?”…”No”.
BECCA: My hand froze midway as I read the words on the screen. Eric Jansen has sent you a friend request. Oh holy hell, I definitely shouldn’t have sent him that message…I picked up my cell and hit the first number on my speed dial…”What’s up?” I took a deep breath. “He friend requested me.” There was no need to explain who ‘he’ was. I’d already told Lizzie all about my awkward run-in with Eric and my stupid message…”What should I do?”…”Sit on it. Take a few days and decide whether or not you want him back in your life, even in a limited way. He wasn’t just some guy, wasn’t just some ex. It’s going to be hard to let him in, even peripherally. So take the time.”
ERIC: I was a mess, felt cracked and broken inside, and she’d always been the one I counted on. It seemed my entire adult life had been spent either running from or to this one girl. She was the compass when I was so lost I couldn’t find my way. So I’d come here…I wasn’t a fighter pilot here. And I didn’t know if it was something in the air, or the sensation of coming home, but I couldn’t help feeling like I could breathe again.
BECCA: We’d spent enough holidays together that we had our little traditions…watching Christmas Vacation, his favorite, and It’s A Wonderful Life, my favorite. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been this excited for the holiday
Definitely a hard fought romance and so worth it in the end. Now we’re gearing up for Easy’s story.
Eric Jansen—call sign Thor—loves nothing more than pushing his F-16 to the limit. Returning home to South Carolina after a tragic loss, he hopes to fix the mistake he made long ago, when he chose the Air Force over his fiancée.
Becca Madison isn’t quick to welcome Thor back. She can’t forget how he shattered her heart. But Thor won’t give up once he’s set his sights on what he wants—and he wants Becca.
Thor shows Becca that he’s no longer the impulsive boy he used to be, and Becca finds herself irresistibly drawn to him. But will Thor be able to walk away from his dream of flying the F-16 for their love or does his heart belong to the sky?
