Yakkety Yak...Let's Chat

I’ve seen several posts of this nature at various blogs and I love seeing what books are on people’s summer reading lists.  I’m nosy and love getting my curiosity filled in this way.  But, I should probably return the favor, right?  I limited it to ten to spare you.  Haha!

Silver Silence by Nalini Singh
#16/#1 Psy Changling Trinity

As you know, I’ve been working steadily to get caught up on this series so I would be ready for this big June release.

Dragon Home by Mell Eight
#5.2 Supernatural Consultant
M/M Urban Fantasy

The latest in the fun UF series that you all know I adore and must have the latest when it comes out and that’s this June.

Still Into You by Roni Loren
#1.5 Loving on the Edge
Erotic Romance

I went at this series in the most backward way possible by starting in the middle and then bouncing around.  I have this novella and book two to get caught up and that’s the plan for this summer.

Modern Love by Beau North
Contemporary Romance

I’ve loved her other books and I can’t wait to read a new millennial romance hitting the shelves in July.

Changeless by Gail Carriger
#2 Parasol Protectorate

I started this steampunk-urban fantasy series last summer and planned to keep going and got distracted.  Now, it’s on.  There are five books and I’m going to hopefully keep going this time.

The Strawberry Hearts Diner by Carolyn Brown

It’s humorous, small town contemporary western and I just adore this author’s books and this one comes out in July.

Ride the Storm by Karen Chance
#8 Cassandra Palmer

Been waiting for this installment for-ev-er.  Need to know what happens to Cassie and Pritkin and the gang.  This book and I have a date this August.

Devil’s Cut by J.R. Ward
#3 Bourbon Kings

Holy smoly have I been waiting to get the down-lo after that big ending in book two.  Another August Sizzler for me to devour.

Illegal Contact by Santino Hassell
#1 The Barons

So, this author.  I’ve been meaning to try his books.  And I will with this July new release.

Monster in the Closet by Karen Rose
#5 Baltimore

Need the chills and thrills of these dark, gritty FBI case stories for the end of my summer.

There you have it.  My list of Summer Sizzlers that will likely be read under the backyard shade tree or by the lake when we’re out camping.  Did any of these make your list?  Got any of your own big plans for a book date this summer?  Do tell!

The following two tabs change content below.
I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.

  • I also got a copy of Illegal Contact by Santino Hassell. I’ve been trying to read more of his books since I loved the Cyberlove series so much that he wrote with Megan Erickson. I enjoyed it but I have been enjoying his series The Community a bit more. Can’t wait to see what you think. Hope you have a great weekend! Happy reading!

    • Thanks, Julie!

I’ve heard really good things about anything he writes so I’m really eager to give it a try.

  • I haven’t read any of those but hope you enjoy them. I have a few books picked out to read soon, Red Wolf by Jennifer Ashley, White Tiger by Jennifer Ashley and Bittersweet Blood by Nina Croft.

    • Jennifer Ashley’s series is on my radar. That sounds like a nice stack, Mary.

  • Looks like a good list! I need to read those early Roni Loren ones still.

    • I am actually about half-way through this list which makes me feel great b/c I can add a few more that I wasn’t sure I would get to. This Roni Loren novella is a shorty so I’m all set to read Fall Into You (when I figure out what I did with it, LOL).

  • it’s been a while since I haven’t read a Karen Chance one! Many there are new to me!

    • I love her books, but it has been a while since she had a new release. I’ve been reading an on-line serial by her about Mircea, but I can’t wait to get to this one.

  • I listened to Silver Silence. I LOVED it. I’m on the list for the new Karen Chance book, but the audio isn’t releasing until September, if I remember correctly. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on all of these books.

    • Oh yes, Silver Silence definitely hit the spot. Bears!!!! And cubbie bears!!!

Oh cool that you are listening to the Karen Chance. I really need things to settle when it comes to the Pritkin situation. That has been driving me nuts. 🙂

      • Yes. I enjoy the series, but it needs to wrap up soon.

Melanie @ Hot Listens & Rabid Reads

        • I agree. I’ve suspected a couple times in the last few books that she is hem-hawing around without a clear end. The Dory books seem to stay more on point, but it seems to be the trouble with writing two separate series sharing the same world and events that causes the Cassie books to spin their wheels.

  • I still need to read book one of Bourbon Kings, I just have heard she leaves cliffhangers on these books, so I am tempted to wait till the series is out, but at the same time I don’t know if I can resist that long hehe

I loved Silver Silence, so dang good.

Carolyn Brown is a author I love reading because of how she describes small town life in her books.

    • Yes, you did hear right about the cliffhangers, but this third book is the last book in the trilogy so you are probably safe to grab book one and start reading with the third book release date in August. I do that with series, too, because I hate getting stuck at a cliffhanger. 🙂

Oh yes, Silver Silence was well worth it. Loved Valentin and the bears. 🙂

I’m starting the Carolyn Brown this week and I really look forward to visiting small town Texas again. 🙂

  • I just picked up the first book in the Bourbon Kings series so I will be interested to see what you think of the new one. I do want to read Karen Chance, Gail Carriger, and Carolyn Brown soon as well.

    • Thankfully, Bourbon Kings is a trilogy so it will be great to both read after the cliffie and see the end of the series. I confess that its nice to finish one now and then. 🙂

Oh, you are in for a real treat with all those other talented authors, Carole. 🙂

  • I have the 1st book in the Parasol Protectorate series…looking forward to reading it myself!

    • It was hilarious the way the pair sniped and snarled at each other plus fun to get paranormal and historical all in one.

  • Oh, so behind on my Gail Carriger tbr pile. But love her sense of humor.

  • Oh, I am also chomping at the bit for Devil’s Cut and Illegal Contact. Those are probably my two most anticipated books of the summer.

I hope you’re able to fit them all in. 🙂

  • Sorry just found this in my huge email backlog. I am not reading any of your series except the one Singh book-but I am still so far behind so won’t be reading this one any time soon. I hope its a good one for you. I am looking forward to Amber Lynn Natusch’s new book and Dannika Dark’s new book. Both come out in August and to be honest it’s the middle of the night and I can’t remember the names of the books. I am up to date on both of the series so yeah, I am looking forward to both of them.:)

    • No prob, Lorna! I’ve been hit or miss with my visits, lately, too. I know you’ve had stuff going on in real life as well.

Yay glad you’re working through the Nalini Singh series. This last one was fab.

I’m not started on Dannika Dark, but I have book one for one of her series to get me going. Hope both yours are really good ones. 🙂

      • I think you would love Dannika Dark’s books. I hope the book you have is Sterling from her Mageri series. While all of her series standalone from the other series, there are a few crossovers and a few in particular will make you wish you had read the Mageri series first. It is still my favorite series of all.

        • Its not. I have Seven Years, but if its best to start with Mageri, I’ll check my library for the first book in that series. You and Kim have me eager to try it.

          • Seven years is a great series! But the Mageri is the best.
