I loved patience, smoothness and constant sexual tension that pervades the story. While excited, the words help soothe you making you patiently wait to see what Logan and Madison will do next.
The Lingerie Shop, part 1 in the Naughty Bits Series by Joey W. Hill, starts off with a lot of grief for Madison over her sister’s untimely death. Ending a long standing fight, Madison came home for the last days of her sister’s life and found out she has inherited a lingerie shop that also caters to some sexual kinks as well. Believing selling is selling, she unwittingly leaves the door unlocked one day and customers start arriving. She finds herself unable to relax or sell the items in the store, making them feel just as uncomfortable as she is.
With a package delivered to the wrong store, Madison heads over the hardware store next door only to meet a man who is mature, handsome and dominant down to the bone with patience of a saint. You see Madison’s sister gave her to Logan, the owner of the hardware store. Not in a sex slave kind of way. You see her sister knew her own sexuality. She understood Madison was a submissive. She felt it to her core these two were made for each other. But getting to know one another takes time and trust isn’t something Madison gives freely.
Madison also knows she is submissive, but after a lot of misses with the wrong man, she just doesn’t think she can ultimately trust one to give her what she needs. Logan is a trainer of submissives. Male, female…it doesn’t matter. In this story he is training Troy, who is young and quite the handsome guy from how he is described. His mistress didn’t know just how much he meant to her until he defended her in robbery (where she ends up shooting the bad guys). Because he (her property) put himself into danger she was “punishing” him when they met Logan. Logan is now training Troy while Troy also works in the store.
These two are like water and oil at times and like a good blended vinaigrette at other times. Logan is patient, strong and willing to allow Madison the time she needs to get where she wants.
”What do you call your subs?” she asked with a note of desperation. “Pets? Slaves?”
“Mine.” His attention slid over her face. “Though I have none right now. What would you want to be called, if you belonged to a Master?”
“I wouldn’t …” She tried to scoff, cleared her throat instead. “I’ve never given it thought.”
“But now you will. Let me know what you come up with.”
What I liked about this short installment is how Joey’s writing soothes me. I don’t know how to explain it, but when a character gets agitated in her story, she knows how to write it so that I don’t get overly upset. It’s calm. It’s exciting. You never know what to expect.
It’s another serial series…why are we drawn to them?
Can a BDSM book work as a serial?
Oh, the mature Dom…why are we so attracted to them?
