Kissed by a Dark Prince was my first chance of reading anything by Felicity Heaton. I started with this one because it is a new series and I hoped to get in on it before it had too many books that I could never catch up. I am so glad I gave this one a try.
Banned to the depths of Archangel, Olivia is surprised and delighted to see the handsome fae laying unconscious on her table. Each time she touches him, his skin lights up with tattoos to her touch. Strangely, she is attracted to him, but leery from a deception in her past. She continues to catalog the male’s features, strengths and observations when the male comes awake.
Left for dead on Archangel’s doorstep, Prince Loren needs to heal fast before his enemies come back to finish the job of killing him. The only way to get that done fast is take blood. The blood of the beautiful woman in front of him. Unbeknownst to him, Olivia is his eternal mate and he has started the bonding process to link them forever. But until that bond is finalized, Loren doesn’t heal and continues to weaken, making him the perfect target for his nemesis.
Olivia and Loren are on a race to break the bond, which Loren feels will be used to hurt both him and Olivia. Olivia is also reluctant to join with an immortals, since her last paranormal relationship ended quite badly. Make no mistake, Olivia is completely mortal, but the bond once complete would make her immortal, which she is sure it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.
Done right, I can get into the whole fated mate thing. What I liked about this one is even though they were fated, it wasn’t an instantly in love romance, but it was an instant lust romance. Olivia has some baggage she has to deal with to let herself feel worth the love Loren might come to feel for her. Loren also has some baggage, but his has been around for 4000+ years so he has come to terms with what must be done.
Loren’s big decision comes in the fact he needs to break the bond that has started or possibly put Olivia as a target for his enemies. If he breaks it, then she can go on with her life. But hey, he has been looking for his fated mate for over 4000 years, so cut the guy some slack that he deserves some love too.
The evil in this story is not straight, meaning it weaves between characters and what you believe to be true many not be true. There is also some insight in to a possible future story of Olivia’s friend along with Loren’s number 1 and another demon king…oh that could be one hot little story.
I am so glad I made the jump to read Felicity Heaton’s new series Eternal Mates. This series is going on my auto-buy list!
What do you think about fated mates? A fan of instant love at first sight?
Or do you like the hard, slow dance of figuring out your mate?
