Q: Tell us a little about your latest release as Diana DeRicci?
Loving Him is my next release, through MLR. It’s a story about redifining ourselves. The basis is a Hunter is jilted by his girlfriend at the altar and ends up going on his honeymoon alone. Along comes the cavalry, Sam, and with his help, Hunter begins to experience things that the trauma of his breakup has revealed. It’s far from smooth or easy, but I found both characters to be very strong and loved writing them.
Q: What drew you to writing M/M romantic fiction?
It all started…because of my muse. Delany’s Catch was the first 1-on-1, MM that I wrote. I had a menage with a MM pairing in it, but the story wasn’t about them, and they were already together. Actually writing to get two guys together… I’d never intentioned to do it, but my muse had other ideas.
That first book was supposed to be an only book. Between the two “me”s, I have more than enough to keep me occupied, and now I have a whole other genre to broaden that. It’s been fun though, and seriously, I love picking guys apart and putting them back together, hopefully in better situations than they started.
Q: When did you decide you wanted to be a writer?
It’s not something I physically decided to do. I fell into it, nearly feet first. I was at home with a 2 year-old toddler and discovered I had a lot of time on my hands. I also had a crafts business where I created and sold numerous painted wood, pottery and glass items as well as yarn blankets and things. But when we moved and sold the van, I had to give that up. Trust me, writing is a much cheaper investment. One computer? Check. Patience? Usually, but check. Quiet? Not always, but I try. Check.
Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I wrote somewhere around eight stories in the first year alone. Many will never see the light of day. Okay, pretty much none of them will. They are my training wheels stories and shall remain in the dusty garage of my hard drive. But there it was, one author launching a career. Oh dear….
Q: I love pizza! If I was to order us one for the interview, what toppings would you just have to have?
I love veggies on pizza, so mushrooms and extra cheese for sure. I like Hawaiian, yes, I’m one of those. I also love cheeseburger style ones with bacon. As you can see, I’m terribly hard to please.
Q: Do you have any quirks or rituals you must perform before, during or after writing?
Other than breathing, no not really. 😀
Q: Is there one character you just can’t write enough about? Who is he/she and why?
Usually once I write the story, it’s a done deal. That character gets their HEA and I don’t revisit them. I’ve done a very short touch on The Charlie Factor, and I’ve had requests for a few sequels, but I haven’t written anything yet.
Q: What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream? Does it have to have toppings?
I have several, actually. Red Velvet is to die for. Anything Peanut Butter. I love chunky ice cream, or soft serve. I soften ice cream to eat it if it’s harder than nails out of the freezer.
Whipped Cream. What else could you possibly need?
Q: What’s up next in your book release future?
Aside from Loving Him, I have another MM, paranormal this time, in the edit pipeline with Purple Sword Publications, Run With The Moon. I also will have a Christmas story in the MLR Advent releases. What I See In You.
We had a blast today Diana! And I am so looking forward to reading Loving Him! Thank you so much for stopping by.
Loving Him by Diana DeRicci
Hunter is on a solo-man honeymoon. Sam is on a belated graduation trip to paradise. Deciding getting drunk together beats doing it while across the bar from each other, Sam offers a brotherly shoulder of understanding when he learns just why Hunter is in paradise alone.
A friendship blooms in a perfect tropical playground where both can enjoy the adventures waiting for them. Unfortunately, Sam soon learns their friendship can be far more than he bargained for when his feelings begin to have a say in it all. Hunter is a great friend, but falling in love with a straight man never works. The most he can expect is the memories he plans to cherish.
Except Hunter may have something to say about that.
