What’s it all about?

Very simple!  Each month I take the word prompt for that month and create a blog post of anything I want using that word.  My personal goal for participating in this challenge is for you to learn a bit about me each month.

This month’s prompt is: HEAT

When I see the word ‘heat’, it is always preceded in my mind by “Beat the”.  I am not a heat lover and summer is my least favorite season. But, I’ll play fair and not be a downer.

There are a few things that will entice me out into the heat though I do it sparingly because this gal only melts (heat stroke) and gets cranky when it’s truly sweltering and you do not want to see that horror show.

One of my fav summer HEAT activities is watching baseball at the ballpark with my water, nachos piled high with jalapenos and scorecard in my lap shouting cheers for the home team.

I’m rather spoiled when it comes to opportunities to watch a baseball game live.  I am about thirty minutes from Detroit’s Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers play and about thirty minutes from the Toledo Mudhen’s ballpark.  I go to each about once a year. My parents live fifteen minutes from the Ogden Raptors and an hour from the Salt Lake City Bees parks and we alternate trips to those.  And, last but certainly not least, I can go watch my niece and two nephews play for school teams and community teams where watching grammy (my mother in law) turn into a true screaming, frenzied fanatic is the most entertaining thing in the world.

Another grand summer HEAT activity (okay its more get away from the heat, but who’s counting), is camping.  I am a big fan of getting away from it all and being completely unplugged for a week or two each year. Sadly, I don’t do tent camping these days- out of shape, plus bears (just saying), but we get out to Utah with my folks in their older RV and hit the trail up a mountain to a campground by a lake or stream.  We do the whole nine yards, (mild) hikes, paddling, swimming, badminton, campfire cooking and s’mores, campfire stories and games, or kicking back in the camp chair in the shade by the lake with a good book.

And, as you are reading this, I am probably engaged in one of the two I showcased above out in gorgeous Northern Utah.  What are some of your Summer HEAT activities or what do you do to Beat the HEAT? Do Tell!

I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.

So fun! Summer is my least favorite holiday as well. We try to go to one Tiger game a summer. I do not think that is happening this year. BUT the summer is still here so who knows.

Living all my life in Puerto Rico means you get used to the heat. Thankfully, where I’m usually at doesn’t go above 93 in the summer and there’s always wind and a beach nearby.

I stay indoors as much as possible. It was 110F here yesterday and that’s not even as hot as we get. We’re expecting 117F by the end of the month.

I tend to stay indoors a lot more now that we moved back to Florida. I had forgotten how hot it gets here. Hope you are having a good time. Love the pics.

I love summer and the heat. Of course, I live 1/2 mile from the ocean, so beach heat is tempered with cold ocean water. I also love heading back home to MI every summer, to my parents home on Lake Charlevoix. Again, heat makes the lake that much better. I used to love baseball games (I used to attend games at Tiger Stadium – I can’t recall if I’ve been to Comerica), and loved going when I lived in Seattle, as well. I’d love to go to see the Red Sox (where we live now), but tickets are expensive! I… Read more »

I enjoy taking my dog out on walks during the summer. During the school year, I don’t have time for morning walks since I have to leave the house pretty early for work. To beat the heat, I enjoy reading indoors. (If I read outdoors on the patio, the mosquitos swarm me!)
