Nate Christensen’s father has died. No big lost according to Nate, who has been estranged from his father for years. Even his three younger brothers don’t have much respect for the old man or his 28 year old wife, Miranda, crying to everyone at the wake. A simple ex-SEAL running a ranch, Nate doesn’t want the billion’s his father left him. In fact he’ll give it to Miranda even if she is a gold digger he can’t stand.
Chloe Benson is in need of a lot of money to safe her foundation that provides sports activities to under privileged kids in Dallas. If she doesn’t get three million by Christmas Eve, then she is done. Having approached Nate’s father with no success, she decided to crash the wake and see if Nate is willing to part with his cash for a good cause. Only….the two hit it off and intense sexual lust overcomes them before she can ask or leave. Now she doesn’t feel she can ask for a donation without it coming across wrong.
Nate doesn’t do relationships, but he can’t keep Chloe out of his mind. So five days later he calls her and gets her in his room again for another bliss filled night of bumping uglies. As the two continue to have a sexual relationship, they start talking and sharing, but both still hold secrets back. Chloe wants him to take his inheritance as a sign his father loved him, while she also never asks for money nor wants him to give her money.
It all comes to a head when Chloe comes to desperate times and asks Travis Christensen for a donation and Nate finds out. Now its on that these two have some talking to do and some sharing of secrets that need to come out.
Before the big secrets come out, Chloe takes off five days to spend with Nate at his ranch. They fall in love extremely quickly, but they also get to know each other and it all feels right. Chloe does realize that Nate uses sex to avoid talking and that got on my nerves a bit, but who can resist a man taking you on the stairs and doing so many naughty things to your body?
There’s some things left to be resolved in the end. Unfortunately, while it has Christmas in the title, you don’t see much Christmas in the book. The wake has Christmas lights, Nate mentions getting a tree once, and they have dinner on Christmas Eve. Not much cheery fun or anything that would draw me as a Christmas themed story.
Christmas with the Billionaire Rancher is a short story that moves fast. The characters develop quickly and fall in love even faster. The side characters are delightful, but I was trying to figure out the age of one kid who was a little over 3 foot and played soccer. My son is over 4 foot and is six, but this kid came across as 10 or so. Anyway, he’s a cute kid (Derrick). We also get to meet all the brothers briefly. Overall, it was cute story with some steamy sex scenes, but light on Christmas.
