The Delight
A gripping story of love, soulfulness and a need to find what the heart desires no matter what age you are. Hidden desires, secret office romance, career altering moves, this will leave you breathless in the end.
Going into this story, I really wasn’t prepared for just how much it would grab me. An British older man who believes in monogamous relationships, in private with a side of kink. He knows right from wrong, but is lusting after a woman 20 years his junior right or wrong? Alexander Knight won’t let it interfere with his career he has made in the US after a divorce that left him devastated back home in England. He wants to fulfill his dark desires, but at his age, he isn’t into clubbing nor one night stands.
Amber Dolors is 22, young and looking for something that she can’t find in all the men she meets. She knows she wants something darker, submissive, and powerful. She isn’t innocent, but she is fresh out of college at her first job in New York. She has fantasies about her boss (Alec), but she leaves them in fantasy until some eye glances, catching breaths and accelerated heartbeats on Alec’s side alerts her there might be equal attraction.
When the two are throw into a project together over a weekend, they flirt, but then turn away from it knowing he is her boss as well as 20 years younger than him. It comes to a head when he can resist running his hands across her shoulders, collarbone, chest. Nothing overtly sexual, but tells her everything about how he desires her. And she knows he’s the one that can bring her to the darker side of sex that she longs to feel. But Alec won’t cross the line.
The two weave back and forth with desire to fulfill what they long for until they both can’t resist any longer. This doesn’t mean they don’t still have reservations, it just means they can’t stop what nature has planned for them.
Through the majority of the story, Amber is very ok with everything, she just wants him to take her on and do the darker things her desires have only dreamed. Wiser than her years, she also seems to have an innocence about her that makes Alec feel like a dirty old man.
Alec on the other hand tries hard at every situation to turn the other way. Even when they have a weekend together, he tries to ignore it. One thing they do is have Amber removed from his team so she isn’t a direct report. I want to make that clear that her job was never about him, it was on her own merits.
The switch of the younger woman being the wiser of the two and the older man constantly trying to run away was nothing new, but it was refreshing to see him come about and realize what he has is precious. The story takes place over about two weeks. Kind of insta-love. And it ends abruptly with a happy for now moment.
Now the BDSM. OMG, wet my panties! This was HAWT! Nothing overtly painful, degrading or beyond the norm. It is intense, sexy, and had me really on edge. There was no skimming or skipping these love scenes! I was on the edge of my seat when he had her undress in the restaurant (read it before you judge) or when he spanked her for the first time. Nothing was taboo to discuss, but there were limits on each side of the relationship.
A healthy balance of kink, to making love, to work, and having fun. The only thing I really wanted more of…was the story after the end.

Oh, this sounds good! Looks like it had some good story development along with the heat. I always like to have a thorough ending too.
Yep, I wanted more in the end. They got through some big issues, but how they move forward is important too as I don’t see this being a happily ever after all the time kind of relationship.
I just finally listened to your song. I love it. It’s familiar, but not one I’ve heard in a while. Looks like it matches well to the crisis point for the couple.
And, yes, after an unsettling rough road to a relationship, I need to see some evidence that its going to hold together for the long haul or the whole romance falls apart for me. It’s already hard b/c a romance in a novel generally happens in hyper-speed which pushes my credulity so I need a solid HEA or an HFN with an epilogue.
It’s a HFN kind of abrupt finish. They have their heart to heart and it ends. You don’t see how it is going to be. How they are going to work together. How they are going to tell their families. Just a lot that they need to still work through together. That’s what lost the 1/2 star. I loved the story and wanted it to wrap up their relationship. Yep, I don’t know how I found or thought up the song, but it worked so well. They couldn’t live without each other, but circumstances were making it impossible to be… Read more »
Now I really want to read it. Glad it pulled you in so much like that.
I do like the sound of this one and I love older men/younger women troupes.
I loved this one. He had the experience she was craving.
Oh Shari, your tune….nice song. Definitely a new to me artist
That sounds like fun. I do like a little BDSM in my romance reads these days. As long as it’s all consensual and nothing gets out of control and this sounds like that was the case.
There is a lot of BDSM, but it doesn’t take over the entire story. It gets intense, but still I don’t see it going over the top.
I think I might try this one, I am a bit picky about BDSM, however this seems like something I would be willing to try out. Thanks for the great review.
BDSM is so subjective. I have my favorites. Sometimes they are silly, or my least favorite type…thinking a Dom needs to “fix” a woman. This is intense, but not over the top. Everything is pretty much in private with parts that give the illusion of no privacy. I liked how he could let go with her and be the man he wants to be. And she gets the needs she has fulfilled safely.
This sounds really good and I can handle an older Brit for sure!
He is a Brit I wouldn’t mind getting to know. Stuffy on the outside, but all hot and smoldery on the inside!
BDMS cant be a hit of miss for me, but you sure got my attention! I’m glad stays within my comfort zone.
Thank you 🙂
It does get intense, but nothing I would call over the top. A little age play once, but I won’t give away that scene.
After your review, I am hooked, Shari! 🙂 I’ll give it a try.
Glad you liked it. It was a really good read!
