Welcome Rachel Cross to Delighted Reader! We are delighted to discuss her debut book Rock Her!
Tell us about your new release Rock Her?
Rock Her is my debut novel, and a contemporary from Crimson Romance. Kate’s a young nurse who has spent the last ten years caring for her family. Alec’s an infamous guitarist who has spent the last ten years putting his life back together after the excesses of his past. Fate throws them together, love binds them.
What sparked the idea for Rock Her?
I started by asking “What would it take for jaded, former bad-boy to fall in love with an innocent, small-town girl?” The answer to that question started with character–honesty, courage and integrity, which Kate has in spades. The dramatic opening scene came from endless hours of watching my husband surf.
Kate is the responsible older sister while the younger sister Emma doesn’t have a responsible bone in her body. Will we see Emma in a later book and does she grow up?
We could see Emma again, but there is one character readers have been begging for—Asher. I’m wrapping up his happily-ever-after now.
Was there a scene or particular character that was hard to write in this book?
My opening scenes always seem to take the most time to write. This book opens with a “dramatic splash”, a life-or-death action scene. I was a lifeguard and a paramedic, so I hope I got it right.
Do you plan to write more books based around Kate and Alec’s world…like Ava’s story, because I think Ava needs her happily ever after?
I would love to write Ava’s story. She’s a great best friend, the kind of person we depend on in life—someone who helps us realize uncomfortable truths about ourselves.
You have had a colorful career. You explain all the jobs you had in between being a firefighter to romance author. Do you think being an author will be your last “job”?
I’ve been lucky in that I’ve loved most aspects of all my jobs. Being a firefighter/paramedic was incredibly rewarding and a tremendous opportunity for personal growth. Owning a business and managing people? Fantastic. But now that I’ve started writing, I don’t think I could quit even if I wanted to!
What do you like most about being an author?
Making characters do what I want. I have two beautiful daughters under six so making up people who (mostly) behave in my fictional world is a pleasant change from my reality.
What’s up next in your writing future?
I’m finishing Asher’s story—he’s been a very challenging character—and hope to have it available soon!
Thanks for joining us today Rachel!
Thank you, Shari—you have a wonderful blog!
Rock Her by Rachel Cross
She’s a small town nurse who had to grow up fast. He’s rock music’s most infamous guitarist. When a day at the beach turns life or death, their worlds collide, and no one will ever be the same.
Kate Gibson’s life has been all about family. She spent her high school years taking care of her dying mother, and her college years raising her younger sister.
Alec Sawyer’s past was an excess of everything: drugs, parties, rock, sex, and money. His downfall had been long, spectacular, and public.
Thrown together by fate and the media, Kate and Alec find themselves falling in love. But dating in the spotlight has its downside, and some secrets are better left in the dark.

ABOUT RACHEL CROSS
Fueled by black jelly-beans and Pinot noir– never together–Rachel Cross writes sexy, sweet contemporary romance. She lives by the beach in California with her surfer-dude/helicopter pilot husband and two daughters. Before becoming a romance author she was a professional firefighter, paramedic, clinical research manager, small business owner and Weekly World News tabloid ‘model’.
Rachel grew up in a suburb of Washington, D.C with three sisters who, like her, were all voracious readers. Much to her mother’s chagrin, Rachel discovered Barbara Cartland and Harlequin Romance as a teen and never went back to young adult books.
A portion of the earnings from Rachel’s debut novel — ROCK HER – will be donated to her local Hospice. Thank you for your purchase and contributing to the care and support of families facing life-limiting illnesses.
