The Delight
With great anticipation, I settled in to listen to this latest book that brings together two of S.E. Jakes recurring characters from the Hell or High Water series and I was not left disappointed.
Review
This is a quick read, but it delivers on the raw sensuality and danger. I was left squirming from the heat Mal and Cillian generated even as I worked through all the twists this one delivered. And that last twist? Holy Bejeebers! I am so in need of book two here!
I thought I liked the Hell or High Water series, but this parallel series is going to give it a run for its money. Cillian and Mal are something else together. They can scorch up the IM board more than most people can do in a bed. They are both dark ops, lethal men who barely have a conscience after all they’ve done. Their passions run along those same lines and just… yeah, I need something cool to drink after listening to these two sex messaging. I can’t wait to have more revealed over the next few books. Surprises have already jumped out, but I just know there is so much more. And how do they recover from that reveal at the end of this one?
The narration work was done by favorite narrator, Dorian Bane. He caught the twisting, gritty, and sweltering tones of this shorter story. There was that something extra that really made this story come to life. Those final moments when both characters got the big shocking news had me riveted and he captured so much both action and emotion that was there.
If you enjoy exciting, dark and gritty m/m romantic suspense, you really need to pick this one up. Actually, start with the Bound series and then the Hell or Highwater which leads into this one so you’ll get the best out of it all and not feel like you’re dropped into the middle of something.

I’ve not read any of these but you have me intrigued. I guess I am curious as to the why of the suspense? Are they FBI or CIA? Or something else? Just curious.
Well, Cillian works for one special ops private contractor and Mal is a former SEAL working for a separate security/private contracting firm. They’re after the same guy, but only Mal knows this. This author writes series that co-habit worlds so that some of the series and spin-offs get really tangled and don’t work separate. This one started after three of the Hell or High Water books so makes sense after those. Unfortunately, this one has been out a while and the second book hasn’t been released. I’m hoping since its got an audio edition that maybe the author plans to… Read more »
I have not read this author before but have made this book sound fantastic, Sophia Rose! I really want to know the big surprise at the end of this one 🙂
Stephanie Tyler is usually the name that most people read her books under (romantic suspense/PNR/UF), but she also writes a ton of M/M erotic rom suspense as SE Jakes. I didn’t start with her oldest M/M series, but jumped in with the Hell or High Water books which this current one spins off.
Oh yes, that big reveal at the end had my head spinning in amazement. Didn’t see it coming at all.
