The Delight

Rebecca Zanetti has stepped up her game with a mystery, three men attracted to one heroine, and a side of romance that doesn’t dominate the story. A young lawyer, a convict, a detective, and a district attorney provide a mystery in a small town with humorous results.

When an average day for new attorney Anna Albertini turns out to not be so ordinary, so starts the suspenseful mystery of Anna’s life. Her boss led away in handcuffs and case files dumped in her arms lead her to the court where she doesn’t expect to see Aiden Devlin in an orange jumpsuit. Aiden was her childhood hero, saving her when a madman kidnapped her as a child to be his bride. But Aiden isn’t a hero, and Anna isn’t a child anymore. Part of a motorcycle gang, Aiden has more secrets than answers.

Her new boss, Nick Basanelli, is a sexy bachelor of Italian descent who wants to make a name for himself. Aiden is on his radar and not in a good way. Attracted to each other, they fight to keep a working relationship while Anna keeps jumping from one fire to another. He also takes her under his wing, trying to cover her blunders.

A grumpy detective, Grant Pierce,  is assigned to the case and he has it out for Aiden, but also a lot of disdain for Anna and Aiden. Catching Anna in the wrong places at the wrong time seems to be his superpower. It’s shocking when you seem him take an interest in Anna after everything he accuses her of.

While there is a trio of love interests, only Aiden has a true into Anna’s heart, but he is also the one who she thinks has more to do with the bad than the good. Her boss is accused of drug running, her autistic high-functioning cousin seems to know where everyone is, a crazy judge that keeps to guessing where the author’s mind will go next and just enough suspense to keep you reading to find out more.

There are a lot of characters in play during the story and it doesn’t end in a cliffhanger. Well, not one with the mystery, but maybe one with love interests. While a side character may seem like a throwaway, don’t discount how each character plays a role both actively and inactively in the mystery.

Anna is a quirky girl who dealt with a crappy incident in her childhood. She clung to the memory of Aiden saving her, building him up to be a hero on a pedestal. Wanting to fix the world when she couldn’t get justice, she became a lawyer and prosecutor. Thrust into the limelight too early in her career, she has no fear…well she does, but sometimes she doesn’t have the sense God gave her to duck. Dumb luck at times is all that saves her. Earnest with a dash of naivete. It’s refreshing and quite funny at times to just sit and read what escapade she will get into next. An accident you can’t look away from.

While this isn’t really a romance novel, it does have romance. It more of a ride through the life of Anna that we get to ride along with. Can’t wait for her next adventure!

About Rebecca Zanetti

New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti has worked as an art curator, Senate aide, lawyer, college professor, and a hearing examiner – only to culminate it all in stories about Alpha males and the women who claim them. She is a member of RWA, has won awards for her works throughout the industry, and has a journalism degree with a poly sci emphasis from Pepperdine University as well as a Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho.

Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides in the wild north with her husband, children, and extended family who inspire her every day-or at the very least give her plenty of characters to write about.

She writes the Dark Protectors series, Sin Brothers Series, a spin-off from Sin Brothers that I can’t remember the name of along with her Montana series. I am a huge fan of hers even it has taken me years to get caught up!

I look forward to reading Anna’s adventures and the guys around her. Fun to see the author venturing into a mystery series.

The story still had a lot of romance around Aiden, but not her usual romance. It’s mostly a comedy with a mystery with three men interested in her. Aiden isn’t all he seems, the district attorney is a playboy and the detective is older and rough. Anna just can’t catch a break. Everything just seems to go wrong even when she isn’t doing anything to cause it. Loved the story and can’t wait for the next book.
