This isn’t my first ride with Leah Braemel, but each time she leads me into the lives of characters I want to know more about. A bad past haunts these two lovers and a family I really wanted to disown.
Ben Grady is hit in the heart when there is a claim on the ranch that him and his brother Jake may not be the only owners. Still reeling from the loss of his father, Ben turns to his best friend and lawyer, Logan, who tells him to file claim with the title insurance company. When help arrives, it comes in the sexy for of Allie O’Keefe, the one woman he let get away.
Allie tried everything to get off this case. Fifteen years ago, her father and her were forced off the ranch she called home and evidence points to a betrayal of the one boy she loved, Ben. Now she must suck it up, but the passionate tension in the room during the first meeting doesn’t get satisfied. Trying to keep a professional front, she fails miserably.
Ben knows in his heart he still loves the woman who broke his heart. But he can’t stop himself from wanting more with Allie. While he is patient, he also keeps going after her, not letting her have a break. Allie’s been hurt by too many people and can’t trust Ben even though his guilt has been absolved.
Through the book, the intrigue is mostly around a mystical heir that Allie has to find or figure out how they are being scammed. There are so many family secrets and I really grew to dislike the Grady family besides Ben and Jack. I don’t think any of them had an decency about anything. They hid secrets, were just plain rude, obnoxious and not someone I would take care of at the end of their life. Seriously, I did not like any of them.
When Ben and Allie get back together, you learn so many things about them, but most of all they aren’t afraid to try almost anything sexual. It led to a device melting heat of passion. Some tie ’em up action is always fun…right?
This is the first in a trilogy of books. Jake, Ben’s younger brother is up next, and I can’t wait to see what he seems to be hiding in this book. We know he can sing, so maybe he wants to be a country singer? We don’t get any hints either, but he does own parts of the ranch and Ben needs to learn to let go some.
I am looking forward to getting to know another character, but you need to read to find out who I am talking about. All those secrets running around that family. Drama mongers.
Have you read anything by Leah Braemel? What do you think of this new trilogy by her? Ready to ride with the cowboys?
