Review
Wow! This starts with a bang like all Rebecca Zanetti books do. A little confusion ensued as I had to get acclimated to this new threat and new heroes. Faith is a doctor trying to figure out how her sister, Grace, is surviving a coma for years with no sign of atrophy. Pulled in to consult on another coma patient, she is drawn into the Dark Protector’s world.
Awaken from a coma, Ronan Kayrs is confused as to how he got back to earth when he was guarding Ulric on another plane. Quade was also one of the Seven helping him. What happened and why was he back on Earth? But those questions have to wait as he dashes away from the Cyst and Kurjans on his trail.
Hundreds of years ago, the Seven were created. Chosen for their honor, strength, and willingness to give everything to the cause, Ronan and his brothers vow to protect everyone from Ulric who is killing enhanced females to make himself invincible. Warping time and plane, they create a jail for Ulric, and two must spend eternity making sure he never escapes. Now faced with his block having been destroyed, he must seek out his brother’s to find out what this means to the world he gave up his life for. Ronan is the great-uncle of the current Kayrs family, but his existence was wiped from history as no one could know about the Seven. Not only did he wake up leaving a prison dimension, but he also wakes up meeting his mate as the Kayrs brand burns in his hand.
The romance wasn’t so hot in this story as Faith kept resisting what hse already knew. She became a coma doctor mostly on her enhanced powers of going into minds. Unfortunately, she can’t get into her sister’s mind.
We get to meet characters of the past with particular interest in Garrett, Talen and Cara’s son. Logan and Sam also make appearances. There is a side story that mirrors the one from the first set of books. Janie and Zane’s daughter, Hope, is a prophet as well as a vampire. She dreamwalks just like her mother and meets a Kurjan bad boy, just like her mother. But she also has two best friends we will see throughout the series as well.
The Seven are down a few members, have a new member, and still one trap maintaining the prison world. There is a lot to get to in this second half of the series. Things are looking bad, but you know these heroes. They will get it all together eventually. The amount of destroyed safe houses in this story though leads me to believe they won’t be able to regroup for long.
This was an explosive entrance to extending the Dark Protector’s series. A new baddie to fight, new mates to find, seven men to save the world. Oh, and locks and keys to be found. An adventure awaits us.

I am loving this series but I need to get caught up.
I started it a year ago and read the first two books. Then I decided to challenge myself this year to catch up on it. Only two more books to go!
I need to start with this book again to get caught up on season two. I do remember being impatient with Faith and pushing Ronan away. I think I might have rolled my eyes about the Janie 2.0 thing, too. But, I still loved that part.
I agree on impatient with Faith. It wasn’t a huge jump to believe him when she knows her own gifts. the Janie 2.0 thing is going to get me even if I love this kid so much. I did skip ahead from Demon’s Mercy to Guardian’s Grace so I need to go back and get the other two stories in so I understand it all.
I really need totry this author! Like really!
I love her stories. She starts each one with a bang!
oooo i love vampires and am familiar with rebecca’s name, though i don’t think i’ve read any of her work. great review and it makes me want to go back to the beginning and find out what all the love is about
