Anne kindly gave us a free space to make up our own Top Ten List. She mentioned Debut Authors and I thought that sounded like a good one and I loved trying a few and several new to me authors. I wanted to share some real dazzlers and I can’t wait to read more of their stuff.
Sweet on You by Carla de Guzman, Contemporary Holiday Romance
This was set in the Philippines during the holiday season when a baker and a barista clash and then sparks fly. Fun pranks and light romance with a great depiction of Filipino culture.
Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid, fiction
I’ve always wanted to try her books and this was a free Prime audio. Four narrators in a novella told in epistoic format between the pair of non-cheating spouses.
Bonds of Brass by Emily Skatske, M/M Sci Fi Romance
Introduces two academy students who get caught up in political intrigue and must flee for their lives. Saw the twist coming and still enjoyed the build of this relationship and their adventures.
Suzy Spitfire Kills Everybody by Joe Canzano, Sci-Fi
Adrenaline rush and an unexpected colorful heroine who just might be a little crazy with revenge. Suzy cracked me up and won me over right away.
Slippery Creatures by KJ Charles, m/m historical mystery
Post WWI era, a pugnacious and engaging grumpy hero and a suave secretive hero clash and work together to outwit a criminal organization. The sparks between this pair made the exciting adventure secondary.
Murder in Old Bombay by Nev March, historical mystery
An Anglo-Indian Sherlock wannabe who has an amazing adventure as he solves a Victorian era, based on true story, mystery. Great historical backdrop and engaging lead character.
An Everyday Hero by Laura Trentham, contemporary romance
A disabled cranky vet comes to life again when a dedicated community volunteer won’t give up on him or a troubled teen in a music therapy program. Tough comeback situations that I enjoyed rooting for.
All Stirred Up by Brianne Moore, women’s fiction crossover contemporary romance
A second chance foodie romance set in Scotland. Heroine had a failing restaurant to save and is wistful about what might have been.
Single Mom’s Second Chance by Kathy Douglass, contemporary romance
A woman fighting cancer reaches out to her first love desperate for help with her children and they might find a way to make good with the past. I fell in love with the whole family and their uncle who came to the rescue.
Marriage by Arrangement by Sophia Singh Sasson, contemporary romance
She needs to keep things strictly business to advance her career and he has an arrangement marriage waiting for him back in India. Lush with Indian culture and tender romance moments.
Did you get the chance to try a first-time author or perhaps an author new to you? Do Tell!

I thought All Stirred Up was cute. Glad to see you enjoyed it too. I have not read any of the other authors, but I every year I swear I will read a TJR book
Same here, a cute Foodie romance. I can see now why people really rave about TJR.
Another great category choice! Thanks so much joining in the celebration of 2020 books.
It was fun, thanks for hosting, Anne!
It’s nice to find new authors to love! I haven’t read books by any you’ve listed here, but I remember your review for Murder in Old Bombay and I’d like to give that a shot. Happy New Year, Sophia! 🙂
Yes, that was a fab debut. I hope she writes more. 🙂
I love discovering new authors! Taylor Jenkins Reid is one- I’ve only read one of her books but really liked it.
Murder in Old Bombay looks amazing!
I was glad to finally try one of her books. I hope to get to a few more. Murder in Old Bombay is worth a try.
I have always wanted to try Taylor Jenkins Reid. This sounds like a good story.
Yes, it was an interesting one- all in letters.
Aww I love this idea of sharing your favorite debut/new-to-you authors. A nice call out!
I loved the idea and went with it since it was a goal to keep trying new books. 🙂
Oh that’s nice! I haven’t read any there!
Some future treats maybe. 🙂
I also like trying new to me authors and it’s always nice to find a new great read or author that way. I listened to Bonds of Brass this year and it made my list of favorite reads of the year :). It was a greta read. I have that KJ Charles book on my to-read list, after reading your review for it I bought a copy, I hope to read it soon. All Stired Up sounds fun, I’ll have to check that out.
Fun that you got to listen to it. I’ll bet it made a great audio story. Looking forward to your thoughts on Slippery Creatures. All Stirred Up made me so hungry. 🙂
My first read this year was Daisy Jones and the 6 by Taylor Jenkins Reid and I gave it 5 stars. That’s the only author on your list I am familiar with. And she was a new to me author this year. Another new to me author this year was V.E. Schwab and the book was The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. 5 stars for that one as well.
I was pretty impressed with the TJR book and want to read more of her stuff. Now, VE Schwab is another I’ve had my eye on to read or listen to at some point.
I haven’t read any of these but I did get to try a few new authors. Lee Savino was new to me this year and has some great books so far.
I think those Lee Savino’s look pretty good. Fun to try new and find a fav. 🙂
I’ve not read KJ Charles, yet and Slippery Creatures is on my wish list. Thanks for sharing your recommendations!
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did when you get the chance, Jen.
Looks like some great New/Debut Authors you were able to pick up Sophia. I really like seeing KJ Charles on your list, I need to try her stuff out soon. Glad to see you found some true gems this year.
I can’t believe I waited so long to try her books. But, Will and Kim were worth it. 🙂
Slippery Creatures is on my wish list! And I need to read something by Taylor Jenkins Reid too.
-Lauren
I think you’ll have a good time with Will and Kim when you get to Slippery Creatures and, yes, TJR is definitely worth a try. I want to read a couple of her others now.
I haven’t read any but I take note of them! Happy New Year!
It is fun to look through the lists and make note of the ones that grab your attention. Happy New Year, Melliane!
OOh there are some very interesting titles I will definitely have to look into Suzy Spitfire Kills Everybody. Just the kind of read I need right now 🙂 Happy New Year to one of my best e-pals xo
Suzy is amazing. I think you’d like her, Debbie. 🙂 Happy New Year!
Ooo, I want to try All Stirred Up.
Yes, you really do, Velvet. 🙂
