How do you like to be scared?  Horror or thriller?

As many of you know, I’ve got a low tolerance for scary stories.

I didn’t read my first horror until about a decade ago when I picked up Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series.  Recently, I let myself get drawn in to Historical- or Gothic- Horror with Laura Purcell’s books, The Silent Companions and The Poison Thread.  That’s plenty hair-raising for me.

But, to answer the question, between the two I’d prefer thriller, I guess.

I love Karen Rose’s Romantic Suspense series, Kendra Elliott, Shiloh Walker, and Melinda Leigh though I wouldn’t classify them as thrillers.

I was born and raised near Sacramento, CA. I have read since I was four years old and developed tastes that run the gamut of literature. I went away to college and have a degree in education, a certificate in family history research, and a certificate in social work. I worked for a non-profit agency with low income families for 20 years which included being responsible for the children’s library and promoting/teaching adult literacy. I have lived in Southeast Michigan for the last 18 years and I am currently a book addicted homemaker with a cat and husband who keep me grounded. Recently, I made it a challenge to review each book that I have read as a favor to author friends who said reviews are important. I have done reviews for Good Reads, Amazon, eBay, and Smashwords, but mostly at Goodreads and Amazon.

I prefer thrillers to horror, too. Love Kendra Elliot’s Mercy Kilpatrick, as you know.

I think horror is better on film for the most part. The scary music and timing of scenes scare me more than reading a horror story.

I’ll have to fill out the form. I always think, darn I should’ve worked something up for this topic after-the-fact. 🙂

Yes, the music and sounds really ramp up the scare power in the movies even those that aren’t horror. LOL

I kept meaning to jump in on TMST and finally did it. It will be fun to see you jumping in, Rachel. 🙂

I can tolerate more scares in a book, but I still can’t do too scary. 🙂

same Debbie, I can only watch possessions, ghost stories and paranormal… keep me away from Saw and Chainsaw Massacre. Ugh!

I think more realistic things where’s there’s danger or violence scare me more than seemingly fictional things. I don’t really like horror though, and thrillers are more about intensity for me. Gets the heart pumping.

You are so right. I get more scared of a psychological thriller than I ever do from monstery scares.

I’m glad that you gals kept it going and I could finally get it in gear to participate. 🙂

Haha, nope nothing too scary there. I like thrillers, but nothing too thrilling, mind you. 🙂

Mystery suspense thrillers are good. I love both horror and thrillers but not so much domestic thrillers.

Yes, I tried a few domestic thrillers and they didn’t grab me much so I’ve focused on other types. I prefer ones that have mysteries, but a good espionage will hook me, too.

Actually have yet to read Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series. Meaning to though. I like both equally. Reading is determined by mood. Currently in horror vibe.

My sister in law kept telling me they were vampire classics and I really had to- so I finally picked them up. LOL

Yes, you are a huge zombie lover. 🙂

I am so not a fan of horrors to be honest, thrillers do much more for me. I find them way more intense and “heart attack” thrilling.

Same here. I don’t relish being scared out of my skull. 🙂

Yeah, it’s been a bit. I know she and her son are putting out new ones, but I haven’t checked them out.
