The Great Pick Up Line featuring
Upside Down by Lia Riley
My awkward pick up comes from POV from my heroine, Talia, in Upside Down (Book #1 Off the Map)
Bran’s green eyes glow in the porch light. He has smooth, olive skin. Despite his dark hair’s rumpled, scruffy appearance, the texture is thick and glossy—definite Latin ancestry. “Do you have a little Spanish in you?” I blurt.
One of his brows arch, a talent we apparently share. “Is that your version of a pick-up, Senora Random?”
“Egotistical much?”
Surprisingly, he looks more amused than annoyed. “Indirectly Spanish, Mum’s from Argentina.”
Jesus, this guy’s genes don’t play fair.
“Your mom?”
“I didn’t hatch from an egg, Captain.”
“What? No, of course not.”

Upside Down by Lia Riley
If You Never Get Lost, You’ll Never Be Found
Twenty-one-year-old Natalia Stolfi is saying good-bye to the past-and turning her life upside down with a trip to the land down under. For the next six months, she’ll act like a carefree exchange student, not a girl sinking under the weight of painful memories. Everything is going according to plan until she meets a brooding surfer with hypnotic green eyes and the troubling ability to see straight through her act.
Bran Lockhart is having the worst year on record. After the girl of his dreams turned into a nightmare, he moved back home to Melbourne to piece his life together. Yet no amount of disappointment could blind him to the pretty California girl who gets past all his defenses. He’s never wanted anyone the way he wants Talia. But when Bran gets a stark reminder of why he stopped believing in love, he and Talia must decide if what they have is once in a lifetime . . . or if they were meant to live a world apart.

Oh I have actually read this one, but this pick up line works much better outside the book. It’s so awkward, I like awkward scenes in books. Have you read Losing It by Cora Carmack? It’s full with really funny awkward scenes.
I think I ended up giving Upside Down 2 stars, it didn’t work for me, although it wasn’t horrible and there were some nice scenes.
I have Cora’s football book in the TBR pile so I hope to get to it soon. Some of my favorite dialogues are those awkward ones. Bummer this one wasn’t a match for you.
This pick up line sounds exactly like something I would say haha
It’s always nice to see fictional characters having less than perfect moments. Gives hope to the rest of us. 😉
Hatch from a egg? that is just awesome. Loved this pick up line…its awesome. Makes me want to get the book just from that small snippet. Thanks for sharing. Hope you are enjoying your weekend ladies.
The lines are really fun, aren’t they?
:snort: love the question. Not the best time to ask a question. Upside Down sounds like fun.
No kidding, Kimba! Haha!
lol I didn’t hatch from an egg. Love getting to read little excerpts from books and having it make me smile.
