Shari’s Update

Happy January! A new year that I wasn’t holding much hope for good things to happen since we are still in the midst of a pandemic. Unfortunately, it got even worse right away. I didn’t post a December end of the month because besides Christmas, there was so much else going on in my life, that things with the blog took a back seat.

In December I was placed in quarantine due to close contact with an infected person. I was actually not in contact with this person, but we were in the same room for less than 5 minutes. I tested negative, but we had to place everyone in separate rooms, schedule bathroom breaks, and announce if we were going to the kitchen. This was for about 10 days and not fun.

During this time I had a check-in meeting with my mom who was out of the hospital and back into assisted living. Mom wasn’t eating, walking, or very awake so the nurse determined she just needed to be kept comfortable and to have hospice come in. They assured me my mom wasn’t dying, but that was a lie. Hospice started their visits the week after Christmas and for two weeks, everything was stable and the same. Then the third week it all fell apart and she entered the end-of-life phase. We were given permission to visit her for 2 hours a day, 2 people max. At first, they said they thought she had a week or two, but within 2 days, they gave her 24 hours. She passed away that night. Everything is sad, but I can say the first day I visited with my brother she opened her eyes and told us she loved us. That was the last time she was aware of anything around her or could speak. I am comforted by the thought we both got to say goodbye. I came back again to visit, but she never responded to me. It’s hard to see your mother like that. She is now with her husband eating Italian Gelato and Orange Sherbet. That’s what I believe would make her happy as she has been depressed and not enjoying life since he passed away. I will miss her bunches, but I also know she is in a better place, not anxious over what is not actually happening, and with her husband she adored.

So with that, I am not giving much of an update on my reading and I haven’t posted any challenges for this year. I think I might just take a break on that and hope 2022 is a better year.

Sophia Rose’s Update

Happy New Year, Delighted Readers!

I had a lovely holiday season and even managed to stay up to ring in the New Year this time.

I am a goal person so I decided to keep my goals from last year because I did better at healthier eating and exercising, organizing and getting rid of unused things, using what I have and buying less, reading more off my own pile or from the library… BUT I need to do better so I’ll stay with those.

I have enjoyed sending a few snail mail letters this month including to my COYER Pen Pal, Nadene who sent back a lovely letter already.  And, on the theme of paper, I’ve dragged out my scrapbooking kit because my mother requested I do a scrapbook for her birthday with her vacation pictures.  It’s been years so I have been enjoying this.  I’ve also taken up my healthier cooking projects again now that the holidays are over though I balanced some healthy cooking with eating a box of See’s Chocolates over the last three weeks.

Got the all clear at the dentist again and enjoyed cooking and running errands for a couple friends who came down with Covid flu bug.  I’m very concerned about one because she has heart issues and ended up being hospitalized for a few days though is back home now.  I’m praying for her and a few other friends who have experienced losses recently.  Hugs to everyone who is hanging tough against life’s challenges right now.

I’ve been enjoying a month-long reading challenge hosted by Sharonda @ Brazen Babes and Taima @ ShadesNPages called the #ReadWhatYouGot.  My goal was to read six from my own shelf this month and I was able to read ten.  Great start!  I do believe the gals are extending the challenge until March if anyone wishes to get in on it.

And, I’ve been excitedly participating in COYER Community which is something new this year.  I can’t do all the option, but I’ve chosen to participate in the Facebook Group, Visiting other’s reviews now and then, the Pen Pal, and the Readathons.  It’s a lovely way to connect with other readers.

Finally, I am doing the new Series Readalong hosted by Anne @ Books of My Heart.  This year the series is Nalini Singh’s PsyChangeling.  I’ve read the series and am up to date, but the earlier books have grown hazy for me plus I’m choosing Audio with the fabulous Angela Dawes for my re-read option making it almost like new.

You can still get in on any of these.

Thanks, Renee!

Definitely worth getting up and getting moving with my walks and stretches. I do hope to extend that and do better with the healthy eating.

Yes! The readalong is already proving fun and I feel like I’m reading a new series as bad as my memory has been for these early books.

Shari, my deepest sympathies to you. Even when you think you are mentally prepared for the death of a parent, it hits far harder than you expected. Give yourself permission to cut back and focus on doing what you need to stay healthy.

Shari, I’m so sorry to hear the news of your mother. There really aren’t words to share during this time of grief, but know that it does get easier to grieve as time moves on.

Sophia, congrats on your reading this month! I always love seeing your reviews.

Yes! I enjoyed reading your health goals post, Iza. I’ve been reading a stretching book and doing the stretches for about three weeks now- talk about better flexibility. But, it also has helped tone things up alongside my walking. I’ll take all the tips you want to give. 🙂

Shari, 🙁 that doesn’t sound like fun at all. I can’t imagine having to do that. But – I imagine that it might happen esp because my spouse went back to the office starting yesterday.

Sophia, 10!!!! Dang girl!
