Each month, I will post up a pair (or more) of books. I would like you to vote on a choice. Yes! You will have the job of telling me what to read from my pile each month. I welcome your vote no matter what reason you choose (frivolous, serious or otherwise) that particular book and do share your reason in the comments just because I’m nosy. I will of course share my thoughts on the book itself in my review post.
Theme for the month is Spooky. I’m going to combine my TBR vote winner with Caffeinated Reader blog’s Fraterfest Readathon. So I’ll be looking forward to the thrills and chills.
Candidate #1
The Awakening by Amanda Stevens
#6 The Graveyard Queen
Urban Fantasy
Blurb:
Shush…lest she awaken…
My name is Amelia Gray, and I’m a cemetery restorer who lives with the dead. An anonymous donor has hired me to restore Woodbine Cemetery, a place where the rich and powerful bury their secrets. Forty years ago, a child disappeared without a trace and now her ghost has awakened, demanding that I find out the truth about her death. Only I know that she was murdered. Only I can bring her killer to justice. But the clues that I follow–a haunting melody and an unnamed baby’s grave–lead me to a series of disturbing suspects.
For generations, The Devlins have been members of Charleston’s elite. John Devlin once turned his back on the traditions and expectations that came with his birthright, but now he has seemingly accepted his rightful place. His family’s secrets make him a questionable ally. When my investigation brings me to the gates of his family’s palatial home, I have to wonder if he is about to become my mortal enemy.
Candidate #2
Shadow Sight by E.J. Stevens
#1 Ivy Granger
Urban Fantasy
Blurb:
Welcome to Harborsmouth, where monsters walk the streets
unseen by humans…except those with second sight, like Ivy Granger.
Some things are best left unseen…
Ivy Granger’s second sight is finally giving her life purpose. Ivy and her best friend Jinx may not be raking in the dough, but their psychic detective agency pays the bills—most of the time. Their only worry is the boredom of a slow day and the occasional crazy client—until a demon walks through their door.
Demons are never a good sign…
A demon attorney representing the water fae? Stranger things have happened. And things are about to get very, very strange as a bloodthirsty nightmare hunts the city of Harborsmouth.
There’s blood in the water…
Kelpies have a reputation for eating humans. Unfortunately, Kelpies are the clients. When an Unseelie faerie this evil stalks the waterways of your city, you have to make hard choices.
The lesser of two evils…

I love Amanda Stevens so I had to cast vote there even though I love UF.
Oh yeah, that has been a good, solid series and would definitely be a great Fraterfest pick. 🙂
I went with The Awakening for that cemetery setting. Happy reading
Yeah, it doesn’t get much spookier than that, Velvet. Thanks!
I wasn’t familiar with either one of these books, but I vote for The Awakening, it’s more my thing. ✨
Glad to introduce you to a pair of new to yous. Hope you get a chance to check out the Graveyard Queen series. 🙂 Thanks for voting. 🙂
I voted Shadow Sight because it’s favorite series of mine. It looks like I’m in the minority here and that’s a shame because I think you would really enjoy this series. I do have the first book in the other series as well.
It is a fun series, Lorna. I’m actually reading it out of order since I already read one of the other books and loved it. I will definitely get to these no matter what. Besides, two more days… there might be an over throw. 🙂
