It’s not a race! I read a lot, but I wouldn’t say I am a fast reader by any stretch. In fact I am pretty slow. I recently saw where someone read the last Black Dagger Brotherhood book in 5 hours….it took me like 11 hours to read it. So when I say I am a slow reader, I really mean it.
So recently I had one of those “AHA” moments where I realized I read slowly. Oh, I pushed myself and pushed myself to get more books read, but then I didn’t have time to write reviews. It became a vicious cycle until about a month ago when I was doing the 15 day book blogger challenge. It hit me that I just was worn out from trying to read 275 books this year when really, who cares?
Now I don’t say I should not be challenged to read more, but I just started to fall out of love with reading after rushing to read everything I could. Why run a book review blog when you never have time to review because you are trying to read your quota for the year?
So I have slowed down and now try to write the reviews of the books I read within 3-4 days after getting done. I have literally put the Kindle down to write a review because I needed the break to get me wanting to read again.
Is reading huge amounts of books really worth it if you end up not enjoying it? Nope, so I am not going to push myself any more to read everything and just enjoy the one I am reading to the fullest.
